You mean delaying/stopping progression while you level the crafts relevant to your class? Reasonable exp sources aren't exactly there. Ixali dailies stopped scaling at 50, temple leves that give decent rewards require 10 allowances at a time (meaning you're time-gated) and the leveling curve itself got stepper with the expansion. It ain't the option you're trying to paint. You can try the hindsight route by saying that maybe people should have leveled their crafts from the moment the cap was raised to 60, but that does not stand up against the fact that not everyone likes crafting and you can't force someone to like something they hate.
This all ties back to how they handled crafts going into ARR, and it's joined the other problems and resulting poor systems. From omnicrafters to BS design for glamours to the convoluted repair system (increasing equipment decay and lifting the decay cap to 200% just to try to make crafting relevant is convoluted), and now materia melding on non-crafted gear.
Mind you, I'm okay with the concept of raid gear having materia slots. It puts that system to use at the very least. But I expected changes to take into account that not everyone likes crafting. Of course, I can trace that to the fact materia creation was not made into its own DoH class like it should have, which would in turn allow for a system where materia is created by the crafter (thus contributing to trade and the in-game economy) but can be melded to gear by anyone (the way gems and sockets work in WoW). Instead we have a system that is needlessly complicated where people are held hostage by time or other people.
