Unless you run as a DPS class, then "high" DPS is a bonus while the main focus of the role is elsewhere. For tanks it is mitigation, positioning, and enmity. If you want to go ham and focus on numbers, roll as a melee DPS. I'm not saying great tanks won't find a way to do both, as they absolutely will, just like all people who excel in their role. That's what makes them great players.

TLDR: if the DPS loss is really upsetting to you, you may enjoy a DPS class more.
Warrior and Dark Knight didn't touch good DPS numbers, only bad DPS. It also really does show.

I did some of the new dungeons before, but because the DPS were so slacking we couldn't do the fight that I could well easily do before because I just can't push the numbers I used to. Self healing went from 1500 to 900-1000...

When I play my healer now though, my favorite tank so far is the Paladin, as long as he knows what clemency is he can keep himself up through so much punishment whilst I focus on DPSing as a healer to make up for it.
