It's a rough estimate because you aren't fighting a dummy like you fight a real monster. Usually no pots, no food, skills used in an order you wouldn't normally or skills you can't use on a dummy but can in a fight due to downtime, aoe fights like AS2 which do not translate at all (as2 dummy as a SMN is a joke), etc etc.

All you can say for sure is that your gear is sufficient, and that if you fail you have to work on your rotation to fit the pace of the fight

Feels bad man, just attempted the Thordan Ex on my 203 Monk, failed with about 10-15% left, tried A4S and the same thing, failed with 10-15% left. Tried both on my 207 DRK and passed Thordan but failed A4S. Need more work to do.

I fail to see the logic behind the Machinist dummies having less HP than the Bard ones...

I thought that, even before their buffs, Machinists were stronger than Bards in a single target situation. And Machinists can buff their own DPS with hypercharge too... no fair! :'(

Maybe it's made with the assumption that reload and quick reload aren't used? Bards have much more consistent and reliable damage so it's likely they lowered the machinist dummy to account for things like that.

It's not a rough estimate. It's pure math and is a more reliable number than what a parse will give you. Because parsers estimate dot damage.

If a dummy has 200k HP and you kill it in 150 seconds then your dps is 1333. That's not an estimate, it is factual. You just can't be super precise since we don't have tenths of a second.

So a random site using math is somehow more accurate than a parser that uses math? Got it.

Parsers have been very accurate for a long time. I did BLM A5S in i210 and completed it in roughly 2:55. Using that site puts me at 1558.86 while my parser gave me 1557.17. I'd call a 0.1% difference to your factual math pretty precise.
