Presumably, communicating through Minfilia helps conserve the Mothercrystal's dwindling energy.
This is true, but remember that she did not communicate with us except briefly after our Blessing was restored. It wasn't until we managed to worm our way to the Aetherial Sea (or rather, we got close enough that she could pull us in) that Hydaelyn was able to speak to us again through Minfilia. She still can't communicate with us directly, and projecting Minfilia's image has to be a further strain on her resources.

Why did Hydaelyn direct Minfilia back into Flow when she was in no danger?

Why was Minfilia stranded in the Aetherial Sea, when both Thancred and Y'shtola were able to be retrieved (even if we needed a little help with the latter)?

Why is Hydaelyn wastefully projecting Minfilia's image to communicate with us, on her home turf, instead of just doing so directly?

It doesn't add up...

Listen, I get that you've thought all this through with everybody's best interest in mind. But why doesn't this world have a place for Minfilia? Every argument in support of this easily boils down to "If it saves the world, then it's okay Minfilia had to die (or at least be put out of commission for the foreseeable future)." What the hell is that? I don't want to hear that again.

The future is not something we just choose. It's not a binary choice between following Hydaelyn's will or letting the Ascians run rampant. The future is something we create, and it should have more possibilities than that. So why not create the future that we want?
