I think it's a little ridiculous. I think the two songs only sound similar in one section. Then again I'm not a musical mind. I don't recall Powerman 5000 being relevant in a good while now. If anything this could get them some new people interested in their music. And in all honestly, I find ALL industrial music pretty damn similar.
They should just fight it out. Soken would win. He's a primal. He sings primal songs. Anyways...

That Powerman 5000 song was in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 though so it has more cool points
The Sephirot theme is pretty lame to be honest
I completely agree with this. If Powerman 5000 is taking issue with this, then I suppose every 4-chord guitarist making CD's should be sued as well. There's only so many notes that can be put together until something happens to sound similar. It's probably not even homeage, I bet my socks on this just being a coincidence.
It's similar enough despite not having listened to that song in years a lot of people aren't just drawing the connection; several have said their first thought is that SE got Powerman5000 to do it. And as others have said, it's not a homage if there's no clear credit given. That's bad.
Definitely this. I haven't listened to that song in YEARS and it was my first thought when I heard the new Sephirot song. The song's general age has nothing to do with the fact that people have been able to pluck it immediately with more than a 10+ gap between release date and now. It's similar enough despite not having listened to that song in years a lot of people aren't just drawing the connection; several have said their first thought is that SE got Powerman5000 to do it. isnt it the same with king mog music? this is halloween
The hilarious thing is, even though I loved that movie, I actually never thought of Nightmare Before Christmas when I first heard the Thornmarch music. I know that I was the rare one who didn't, but yeah. :/

When you take the words out of Good king moogle mog it sounds exactly like the original song from FFV, when you take the words out of Sephirot's theme is sounds extremely close to When worlds collide.
The same line is made between protecting your artistic integrity and being petty.
Needless to say, it's Powerman 5000 that lost a fan in me, not SE. Art and expression is something I have always viewed to be shared, derived and provide inspiration for the next generation. This song is a continuation of, honestly, many musical queues from music of that time, not just Powerman 5000 who has a very similar lead riff.
As said before and all over FFXIV and even PWM5k's media, they're the first band in a long line of inspirations to FF music to ever complain and slander like this. I doubt this sort of claim would hold up in court even if there is a case, which... honestly I don't think there will be.
