While it's very similar, I don't think theres enough to warrant an actual ripoff seeing as how bands and a lot of games do the same.
A more blatant example is Black Sabbath and Danzig.

I would like to say, while I do not care for the group nor this situation, this isn't a suitable excuse to rip off other peoples music.

Best I can tell is that particular response is from a fan, not the band. Nonetheless the band does appear to take issue with the track given their FB post.

Worst case scenario would be Soken being held accountable as well as FFXIV losing funding to pay for the cost of the dispute. Hopefully it will be settled without any major problems - because this could be very damaging to the game's reputation if people exploit it as a means to bash the game.

I actually like the track, and would have pointed me into listening to more of Powerman 5000 - except now it sounds likes this is going to be a petty bicker of copyrights (which, honestly, would lose in court against SE.) rather than Powerman 5000 being flattered by the homage.

There's a very thin line between homage and plagiarism, especially when credit isn't give to the one you are paying homage to. That goes double for when money is involved. >w>()

IF this does go to court and Powerman 5000/who ever owns Intellectual Properties to the "When Worlds Collide" does wins, SE could opt to keep the song but then they would have to pay royalties to continue using it, IF permission is given.
