Ok I want whatever it is that you're smoking 'cos that sounds friggin' awesome! XD
I admit to downplaying the difficulty of the task. That was not what I was attempting to do. I fully acknowledge the difficulty and risk involved. Again make it as difficult and time consuming as you think is fair, only make an alternative path to the best gear that doesnt involve making it or buying it. Maybe like Konachibi suggested: 5 slotted materia is equal to relic gear. And we could say that you have to have defeated 10 dungeons all OW monsters, all quests, side quests, behests, etc etc. Completely unbuyable, untradable and uncraftable. You are downplaying the tremendous financial risk that crafter will be exposed to, in order to create that sword.
Any item with 5 materia is going to be very difficult to successfully make, and if you fail - you lose the materia and the item! So, we're talking:
- One of the best swords in the game to begin with
- 5 of the best materia in the game, and these sure as hell aren't going to be cheap
- the highest-rank catalyst materia (if they have ranks, I don't really know)
They actually stand to lose a hell of a lot more by creating this then you do fighting. If you die, so what? Your armor gets dinged a bit? Someone who tried to make the weapon you describe will be gambling with millions of gil. I don't see why that's any less worth it than what you do.
Sounds like a case of "I want what that kid has"
Id prefer to see them take different patch, so each has a benefit over the other but outright non is better in all situations.
Crafted = Best stats/Raw Damage crafted
Loot = Added ability's/effects/Elemental effects (removed from crafted weapons/armour)
Something along those lines.
Crafted should never be better than raid gear. This is a lesson pretty much every MMO the last 10 years has learned but apparently we have to do it again here.
@ Esk:
I could get on board with that. I said ballance so it doesnt necessarily have to be equal.
@ Jinko:
Sounds like a case of "Dont dash my beautiful crafting dreams".
I already said this was not a personal attack on crafters........ but if you relly want to make it one....
I am asking for an alternative path. This game provides different ways for people to play the game. There are some that are all about crafting and see DoW/DoM as secondary. And there are others that think the opposite. And there are yet more people that like a mix of crafting/gathering/fighting. A crafter isnt forced to engauge in fighting activities, why should a fighting class have to get involved with crafting. The way I would like to play the game is strictly as a fighting class, and to earn rewards in blood instead of through gil or craft. Now those last two options should be there if I want to use them, but I should have another alternative. And yes I do have that alternative now with the darkhold, but the rewards are sort of meh.
I don't think anyone would want to craft anymore if raid gear is better though
"Sounds like a case of "Dont dash my beautiful crafting dreams"."
Hardly I'm not a crafter I just have it leveled so i can repair my own gear.
Like you I would much rather spend my time in a dungeon gaining loot but that doesn't mean I expect to have the best the game has to offer, as has been pointed out killing a few bosses in a dungeon isn't really comparable to the time, effort and cost of making HQ 5 slotted items.
SE could go half way and make 3 slotted non tradeable items that can be bought with company seals though.
You are probably right. Which is why i repeatedly used the word ballance. Not asking that U/U gear be better, just a ballanced alternative way to get the best gear that doesnt involve buying or crafting, and can not be traded or sold. As long as its ballanced there will still be waaaay more people using the materia-crafted gear system than U/U gear. The 2 main reasons for this is that many people will love being able to customize gear so they can have a specific look and the gear they want, and that there will always be more casual players than raiders. So as I said before, there would be no threat to crafters or the economy. Its win - win!
ya know, this conversation is exactly the same as the conversation on another thread about the full time crafters wanting access to the company chocobo's........... what was stated again.....oh yeah. if you want to be able to turn your super cool weapon into a 5 slotted materia crafted item then level your crafting. it's not hard.I already said this was not a personal attack on crafters........ but if you relly want to make it one....

like i stated in there a sacrifice is always for the good of the game when it's not that person's class that has to sacrifice.
