This is so sad!

This is so sad!

That's the whole point. They are suppose to slow you down and make you think.
Seriously when did games stop being about the journey and just about getting to the cap?

I'm sorry they are making this change. I loved exploring and doing a lot of quests and seeing how much of the map was still to be uncovered was always a good incentive while levelling.

"Ain't nobody got time for dat!"?
Was it really a difficult thing to uncover the maps? I'm trying to remember....cause like, I think I uncovered all of it just doing the main story quest. Are there people out there that *didn't* finish uncovering the map that have played for a while? I mean, with hunts being as popular as they seem to be, despite complaints, I would have figured everyone would have uncovered everything by now...accidentally...
It seems like a very weird thing to change. I liked the exploring aspect and getting rewarded for it in some way (experience points when opening map, see more of the map). But it's whatever really. They already taken rewards out of anything and everything they can. Unfortunately, simply doing things for "fun" isn't working very well for the Lord of Vermillion mini game in Gold Saucer though... I mean like...the rewards are sparse and in-between with that game. It's a quite fun mini game too that I enjoy... On Leviathan server, we didn't even have a full 20 people competing for the recent tournament. It's over tonight and I looked at the vermillion board and there were like 14 people on it out of the "top 20" people. I guess since people can't cheat it like Triple Triad and there is no reward really to speak of (unless you count an achievement for ranking high in four tournaments over...2 months?) so... no one cares about it? I feel like that is whats going to happen to doing anything in ffxiv.... The only reason savage mode is even in ffxiv *at all* I would assume is because of the MLG group of people and related press of people who try to "beat" it first.
In the end it's a minor update that doesn't really change anything though. It's just one of like a few hundred things in a trend that has proven to be popular I guess.

Gotta chime in to say I also don't understand where this change has come from. I've never seen anyone complaining about this. It's pretty standard in MMOs and RPGs to uncover the map via exploration and for the players that enjoy that stuff this is removing a major part of the fun for them. I would argue there are likely more players unhappy about this change than there are happy to see the feature go...

If you are reading SE, we don't like this, you still have time to change it before Tuesday!
Ya know, in retrospect this could actually be good for my "Cartographer" Role Playing. I came to Eorzea to explore it and after the calamity, stayed to remake The Ironheart Maps that were no longer applicable.
Now that I've remapped all of 2.0's Bahamut Altered Areas I can RP that the Grand Companies started issuing my completed map revisions to new adventurers.
Silver Lining I guess?
As I said earlier, it may be a preparatory measure in order to get ready for a serious update of the 2.0 maps in order to allow for flying (and possibly swimming come 4.X) and create more areas to be explored. By making the old Level 1 to 50 areas a single unlock they free up a bit of character data that can now be used to track exploration in the expanded 2.X maps without increasing character data that much.Gotta chime in to say I also don't understand where this change has come from.
