Personally for me, getting lost trying to find that quest point was all part of the fun. I personally felt it brought a sense of exploration and maze-solving into it and I loved that. At most, an optional line trace showing a route (not necessarily most efficient route though) to get from A to B would have been better IMO.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

That seems like such an odd decision when the ARR zones are so, so small (EDIT: ) and not really that dangerous to explore already. It pretty much ruins the mystery of zones when exploring the first time, which is the fun with exploration and the satisfaction of completing maps.
Also, I really don't know why people would play an MMORPG with an open world if they detest exploring.

My guess is they're streamlining 2.0 so that people can catch up and get to the 3.0 stuff sooner.

Very possible, but it is not like getting each map revealed all at once will make that process noticably faster.

In some ways this change would actually make things more difficult. E.g. when doing hunt-logs it can sometimes be hard to find certain creatures. Currently one can look at the map to find unexplored areas which can be a strong hint on where those creatures might be found. With all the map revealed at once you won't have that help.

It doesn't need to say "Hi" it needs to say get out there and explore!

This is probably just the first of many steps. How much complaining did we see upon HW launch that people would have to go through the 2.0 content to get to the 3.0 content? Now imagine how 4.0 would be. I'm guessing huge chunks of the storyline are going to be boiled down to a TL;DR version.

This might have something to do with reducing character data. The map progress data, although small, is something that is carried with you into every instance and zone. Probably easier to flag a zone as locked/ unlocked, rather than displaying a lock/ unlock for all 20+ areas of each zone map.

Achievement and retainer data is different, since you have to "retrieve" it somehow from servers, which can lead to "achievement data is currently unavailable" errors if the data is slow to load. Same thing with retainers, they sometimes take extra long to appear because the data is delayed in pulling up from where ever it is stored on the server. I've never had that issue opening my map, which makes me think the map data is the same as inventory, in that it is always part of the character.

Still doesn't explain why they didn't make dungeon maps instantly unlocked in the same manner.

Actually it wouldn't change anything. The hunt logs always tells you the exact area/region that the mobs hang out at, so the redone maps are gonna make hunt logs even easier to do.

Just feel accomplished after getting the achievement of seeing the whole map uncovered.

In the other games I've played, unlocking a zone simply requires running around and exploring. I think that's awesome as I personally enjoy checking out new places and map completion. What I dislike greatly is having just about every new zone locked behind multiple missions, dungeons and/or leveling. Let me explore at my own pace and find my own fun.

They have previously stated that the 3.0 content won't be required to access the 4.0 content. So......yeah.
