    Why 2.0 maps will be instantly opened now?

    When I was playing through main scenario for the first time, opening maps patch by patch was very satisfying, it gave a sense of exploration and still hidden map pieces were mysterious.
    Now new players will never experience it, all maps will be fully opened for them as soon as they'll step into the area.
    And reason for this nerf? Was it called? People were having a trouble with unlocking the maps?

    Who knows anymore with SE? They're convinced their player base is beyond basic.

    They need to be careful not to discourage exploration altogether. Whenever I head into a new zone in pretty much any game part of the excitement for me is gradually pressing deeper and deeper into it to see what awaits me.

    If they plan to ruin the surprise - especially with the lack of any real unexpected environmental hazards - then it simply makes things feel that much more clinical. At the end of the day it's a Final Fantasy game. It's part of a franchise that has almost always encouraged and rewarded exploration.

    They did mention though that the exp bonus for map completion remains, but did not clarify what was meant by it - is it only a small amount of exp gained upon entering that zone for the first time, or is it all a lump sum of all the exp that would have been gained filling in all portions of the map? I think we should wait til the the full patch notes are released before making judgement on this. As far as I can figure it this was changed in order to help new players find their way through the game more quickly, as it is only ARR areas that are affected (HW areas still require you to fill in each part of the map individually).

    The thing I'm curious about is how this would affect the achievements for map completion - does a new player gain that achievement upon simply entering that area? It seems a bit cheap to grant an achievement for... doing little other than zoning into an area. But ah well, as I said I think we should wait til the full patch notes are up before making final judgement on this.

    Sadly yes, it's mentioned in the patch notes for 3.2;

    It makes it easier to navigate around the first time for sure. I remember trying to make a direct line to my quest objective after entering a new zone only to be met with many obstacles and walls, only to discover that i couldn't have possibly gotten to my destination from my original course, then having to backtrack and try again.

    But

    How will people know where they haven't been?

    Wow, that is kinda sad.

    I, for one, love finishing my maps.

    I guess the player automatically gets the mapping achievement by entering the zone? That's silly.

    It's a little unnerving. Surely if someone is completely new to the game they'd want to take the time to explore and gradually tackle more and more content as it opens up? If not, are those the sort of players that we want to flood into the game? If they rise in number then it's inevitable that the development of the game will erode away further aspects of exploration in the misguided cause for 'efficiency'.

    Most are as such. People are like "I swear I know what I'm doing!", followed by them doing stupid things and then asking for nerfs.
