I like the idea of just a headstone you could place outside, people could use this as just a decoration if they like or use it as the OP is intending to use the statue. Really wouldn't be putting anyone out?

As Pastel said, just a general headstone or statue with placard anyone could put up would be best. I can't foresee square hiring on staff to hunt down family, call them up and confirm the user is dead so someone could build an in-game statue. For now you can put together a small shrine with some of the already available objects where you and your fc all know what/whom it is for.

Not only that, even suggesting that a gaming company start contacting the families of the dead for verification is beyond foolish. I honestly can't believe that suggestion was made and the op really needs to step back and think about this. If they(op) place the value of a bust over how rude that is to the families, and that they think the cost of doing so is worth it to SE, well...

The last thing I would want if someone I knew passed away would be some game company asking if its ok they make a statue of them.

To sell it for profit on their cash shop, too.

I like the idea, but only coming from the perspective of 'player statues' overall. I'd have a 20ft high one of me in gold on my FC house lawn.

But then people could make them for whatever purpose they wanted - a memorial like the OP requested, humour like Titor said, or an FC reward.

Maybe FC crafting, so you could only use a member of your FC as a template, a number of different sizes (for 'tabletop' trophies to outside furnishings) and colours (polished gold, finely painted, etc.). So yeah, as long is the function can have use for a lot of the playerbase, I think it's a great idea.

I'll go clear some space on my lawn...

Doesn't have to be a cash item, someone simply suggested that.

Excellent suggestions. Much appreciated over some of the repulsive things people like Whiteroom say.

well if you really wanted you can always put your friends name in the description of your plot you own. but i would agree that it may sound harsh but asking a game company to specifically make a model of a character of your friend is a waste of their talents, when they could be doing updates for a whole population and just not a very select few players. to be honest i don't think people would like some creepy statue of some guy you knew that died this is a game leave that stuff in reality.

I haven't gone through the whole thread, not sure if somebody expressed this point already (I hope so), but my first and foremost thought was this, yes. I play games for escapism, things for me are pretty messed up already with my own problems, and man would it suck if I get out of my fictional house where I hang out with friends and have fun and I get to see the neighbour's grieving over somebody's loss, every time. Man, thanks, now I want to log out.

It's not really lack of empathy. It's just because I have empathy to begin with that things like these hit me, that I feel sad if bad things happen to other people. Grieve, work out your feelings, stop playing for a while, make a symbolic memorial, I don't know; however I think of this it still feels too inappropriate to add to a videogame.
