Mentor System: Increase Commendations to 500

Don't worry. Nobody going up to 60 will have the 1000 instances required which will also be a prerequisite for this.

I don't have AS4 down. Heck I don't even have AS3 down. And yet I'm on my way to the 2k achievement.

Some of us have been playing for a long time.

Back in 2.0, many people did the 52 CM runs to have a full DL stuff. Multiple times.
They also did all of the relic steps, with the 2000 unnerfed light to get for novus, then unnerfed zodiac drops, and mahatmas (though shorter). Some did it multiple times.
They also farmed primals for ponies.
They also farmed coil for glamour (+ weekly clears)
They also levelled up their jobs with dungeons because FATEs are trash.

etc etc..

1k isn't actually that long. It just shows you have played the game for a long time.

I just checked Lodestone. I'm somewhere between 100 and 300 instances cleared, and 86 comm.

Meaning I'm never going to be in this system, despite being a lot more qualified than a good chunk of people who do meet the requirements.

I don't care personally, I wasn't going to use it anyway, but this is just an example of why those kinds of stats are not useful.

Well. It seems like a decent way to teach people dungeon basics. What I'm concerned about is that teaching someone how to play in a group setting still might leave them behind if they aren't doing their job rotation properly. Is that going to be part of the class?

Tanks have to be knowledgeable of instanced content IN ORDER TO do it well. DPS can just follow and shoot stuff.

If a tank is doing well enough to earn 3 commends, they are already on the way to being a half decent leader, aka a mentor...

I almost have 2k in the span of a year and a half...it's "cleared instances" not "how many times you step into an instance".
You know what helped? Light farming. I'm pretty sure at least a good tenth of those is from light farming for my Zeta.

But either way it isn't a hard goal to hit unless you just don't run dungeons/trials/raids....anything.

I've run thousands of instances, and have over 2,700 commendations.

Well yeah. They're boring. I don't spam roulette for eso. I only join when people need me for extremes or something. If people wanted to invite me to savage or Thordan I'd be glad to join up, but even with that that's not going to add up to ~800 clears any time soon.

I will forever believe that dungeons cannot and are not more boring than endless FATE grinding for levels, which is...what you must have done, right?

I don't know about you but I think the excitement of what's gonna pop out of DF can be really fun. Will my party suck? Will I be able to take a nap while fighting? Will I get a trial for Leveling roulette and be done with it for free 200,000+ XP or will I get The Vault and probably cry the whole way? Will my party members be fun and talkative, or quiet and efficient, or complete jerks? Will I laugh at someone's username? Etc

The game is only as exciting and fun as you make it.

And yeah, if you just joined you aren't going to have a lot of comms or runs anyway. I'd hardly say I was ready to mentor people after two months, regardless of how many jobs I had leveled at that point or how perfect my rotation was....

The think that gets me is having a Tank/healer/dps class each at level 60. I main heals, sch and whm and I play blm for dps. I have no interest in tanking and do not have a level 60 tank. How many ppl would get locked out of Mentoring others if they have no interest in one of the three required classes if I read the 3.2 letter right? The number of dungeon runs and comms isn't that high if you did 2.0 relic to zeta.
