That.. isn't a new style. WoW uses the suggested style, its just adding traits and more options on the current style. Don't know what your talking about.i find it funny that there doesnt seem to be any company that has done what you suggested, telling me pretty much all companies that make mmos think that your idea of "throw a completely different battle style into an already established battle style" is very very bad idea.
on another note, the fact that you say what i have bolded shows you know having certain things in game will do nothing at all to change how the game is played. not sure why you tried to follow that up with the "more variety" when there would be none. also, everyone has different requirements for fun.
edit- hey look, an example of a game that did it, and it pretty much failed. thanks saito.
action, shooter, brawler, beat-em-up, they're all possible combat systems within MMORPGs. But yes, XIV is different from them, in what is commonly called the "WoW clone" combat style. And yes, it can't just be changed. XIV has had significant limitations since the moment it chose to go with that style. I really hope the next FF MMO comes out sooner than later and picks a better style more akin to XV in an MMO setting.

Know what isn't fun? Being denied raid (or even EXP party) spots because you're not playing a desirable class. Go read up on FFXI's history (and current state) regarding undesirable jobs.
As a DRG, it wasn't unusual to have to wait weeks to get exp party invites before Treasures of Aht Urgan was released. Even then, it took a fairly large overhaul to make two handed DPS comparable to Dual Wielding DPS outside of very specific situations. As a trade off, Blackmages were basically unusable in EXP set-ups and were only used in raids when zerging wasn't an option.
So much fun if you're maining one of the undesirable classes, look at all that content no one wants to bring you to.
And every MMO has been plagued with this issue at one time or another. The only one I've played that hasn't is Blade and Soul, and that's because it's a completely different beast.

Maybe the next FF MMORPG can borrow from that. FFXIV would require too many changes for that to be feasible though.
For me, Final Fantasy is, for the most part, really bad when it comes to customization. You have either "Your character build is set in stone" (FFIV, IV, IX...) or "Every character is approximately the same" (FFII, III, V, VI, VII, VIII, X, XI, XII, XIV...)
