It's the reason I haven't registered my copy of Heavensward yet, and won't until finishing everything from ARR. I'm avoiding the expansion because I don't want my level cap to change yet. The downside, of course, is that I can't unlock the new jobs or make an Au Ra alt, both of which I'd like to do. But I don't want either of those badly enough to be willing to get XP for everything I do with my level 50 jobs. 50 was level cap for so long that there's just a huge glut of content at that level. The leveling process works best if you can stop there long enough to do it.

(And I don't mean just the 2.1 - 2.55 MSQ. If that was all the level 50 content I was interested in, getting that much excess XP would be fine. But there are also side stories, a whole 8 tier relic system, optional dungeons/raids, and so on. If you do everything, that's a lot of level 50 content.)

Plus, an XP disable would be really helpful in the earliest levels of the game as well. Many people out-level the first 20 or so levels of the main story by quite a bit since leveling comes so fast in those early levels. If you could turn off XP whenever you get more than a level or two above your next MSQ, you could keep those quests at an appropriate difficulty level. And people who want to keep repeating a dungeon until they get all its cool drops could do so without wrecking their open-world quests in the process.

I'm in favor of this feature in pretty much every game I play. (I begged for it for years in LOTRO before they finally gave it to us.) It's nice for players to have some control over their leveling speed. Just because some players are in a rush to reach endgame doesn't mean everyone needs to be. What's more, it'll keep being a bigger and bigger issue every time SE speeds up the leveling for those players who want it faster. (Leveling additional classes is now ridiculously fast since they increased the Armoury Bonus from 50% to 100%. Just last night, I went up two full levels 18->20 in a single run of Sastasha. Level 19 lasted all of three minutes. That's not exactly a problem, but it's the sort of thing players will increasingly want some control over.)

Exactly. When I was leveling to 50 during the 2.X days I decided I wanted to get a full set of gear for my class from the Brayflox dungeon. Doesn't matter how logical or not that is, how quickly someone else could level and make the set useless, etc.. it was just an armor set I wanted to have as I advanced. Thanks to a lot of bad luck RNG-wise, it took me many levels of farming that dungeon - levels that I didn't want to race through or get, levels that were helping to make the whole point of my goal quickly obsolete.

It made something that could have been fun for me instead very frustrating, and I would have very much liked to have had the option to temporarily pause my leveling while accomplishing this goal I had set for myself. I accept that not everyone can see the value in such a feature, but it's the kind of option that is really handy for some players when they need it.
