As far as the ilvl requirements go the best thing imo to do is buy the lvl 50 gear from the MB or have someone pick it up cheap from Ishgard vendors. It's a full set of i115 gear so you should be able to blow throw all the content you have left without having to worry about meeting the ilvl requirements everytime.

Plus you don't have to do every single dungeon quest either just do the things the Main story makes you do so you can get to the HW stuff and you can always go back & do the things you skipped.

You'll get synced to level 50 for pretty much anything where your level will come into play anyway, and it's honestly better to have those levels then to do the old way and have to grind to access the next 3 quests then repeat again lol.

As it has been said, you'll appreciate it unless you enjoy being stopped and told to come back when your level 54/55/57/59 multiple times cus the story seems to stop after like 2 or 3 check points.

Considering level sync exists, and there is no PvP level ranks that can't be accessed once you pass them like WoW, it's a bit of a pointless feature.

At worst, you'll have to do a few less moogle sidequests in heavensward, and trust me, that's a blessing, not a curse.

I was 53 by the time I got to HW. I hit 60 just about the time I finished HW. I don't think you'll feel too bad about the exp a few levels into the expansion.

fairly sure all the 2.1-2.55 story line can be don in i90 gear, which is handed to you for doing your level 50 job quest now ^^

That's not how they intended it to be other than day 1 players.
