Only reason I leveled two battle classes (Conj and Thaum) was to use the to farm things I could not get gathering. I see the combat classes as the icing on my crafting/gathering cake. When I can repair/make all of my gear that I obtain/make, then I will work on the other combat classes.

What I don't believe is that they're deliberately shutting pure gatherers and crafters from getting a chocobo on purpose, or that the dev team is not working it's butt off to please as many people as possible. Whatever they've got on the table, I'm ready to see it. At the least I can rent a chocobo if I want and with people turning their gear into materia I might be able to sell some in the markets. Things are looking up for me no matter how I think of it.

Basically, I agree that non combat classes should be able to earn a chocobo on their own, but I think it's too early to complain that it can't be done. Perhaps we can start this over again in a week or so if we find out your suspicion is on the money and there's no note to the effect that the issue will be addressed.
It's good that you have such a positive attitude and I do hope I'm wrong.

But after being shut out of the Grand Companies entirely since their appearance (all GC quests are Battleclass related) my gatherer buddy is thinking about quitting the game. He's really disappointed about the Chocobo thing. It was a long awaited promise that he really really looked forward to. He can rent but he wants his own becuase he doesn't want to be tied to a city or to be limited to only 20 mins. because it makes it useless to someone who gathers for hours very far from town. Plus, it's the gall of seeing "everyone else" running around on chocobos when he's not. So you gotta respect his point of view that this is a major blow to his outlook of the future game. How long will he have to wait before he feels like the game is improving? Because right now he feels pretty left out.

I've offered to power level him and run him through the r25 quests for all 3 cities. I don't want to lose a friend.

What? Is the 1.19 patch-note already out?
Where can i read it? Or do you mean 1.18 with "(all GC quests are Battleclass related)"? 1.18 is outdated in few days.

I'm very sure crafters and gatherers are getting work in the grand companies.
Make the quest Seeing the Seers in Gridania and you see what I mean.

This is not the point. As a crafter and citizen of Eorzea, I want to contribute to world. Give us crafters Company quests that asking us to make "Ul'dahn Longbow" as a quest item. In this way, when we see someone equip "Ul'dahn Longbow", we know we have done something good for our role in Eorzea and not feel being left out from it.

Have a bit of a story related to that, Might be a bit long.

Many many moons ago I was talking with a friend via ventrillo. We were both running locals at the time. Some how the conversation got onto hamlet defense battles and then back to how silly it was to be making all the buckles, bandannas, and all the other stupid crap you churn out for locals.

He got quiet for a couple seconds then said, You know what would be cool Griss? If we got a quest to make Armor weapons and other things for the hamlets and when you ran out to the hamlet to turn it in, it actually effected something. like any npc's defending got a little bonus to damage or defense or had more hp. Or it made certain buffs available to players. I had to agree with him.

I know i only speak for my self here, But that's why i get into crafting in these types of games. The idea that something that I created helping out another player even if i never have any other contact with them other then the transaction. Well it just gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

The Grand Company Chocobos (please stop calling them Personal Chocos..those come later) have those nifty flags/banners on them. Perhaps Crafters will be asked to make them. It also could be that the entire Materia System is GC related.

I am pretty certain that Crafters and Gatherers will have Company Quests soon but I have my doubts that they will be awarded a Battle Chocobo (Why would they?). I believe that they hinted at a "Pack Mule" Chocobo (that you can walk beside) which is probably only available to Crafter/Gatherers.

BTW, I looked through all the Official Personal (GC) Chocobo notes and I saw nothing that stated nor implied that Crafters/Gatherers could not get one. What is the concern? Is it that there are currently no GC quests for craft/gather to earn Seals?

If that is the worry, then hopefully 1.19 will have Craft/Gather quests for seals. If it does not, then start worrying.

You are a good friend. ^^ I'll keep my fingers crossed that he does not feel left out for much longer.

While it's a different system as in other MMO's, it's still a system which lacks a lot of things. Or at least some sort of long lasting-ness ;O
    I'd rather bang my head against the wall or on my desk instead of hitting standard synthesis over and over for 1hour and above ><;

I dunno. Maybe they changed a little bit already. But skilling (sping) up the crafting classes still feels sloppy and boring. Of course some people think "Oh cool, that's what I can do 24/7". I cannot. T-T

But here are different opinions at place once again. I can only hope they tweak it a little bit more so it's getting more enjoyable instead of a "Hmm I need my CRP at 50 so I can repair my own bows in the field"-Feeling.
I want to play that game regulary sooooooo badly but it's not that appealing yet, sadly

this is one crafter that completely agrees. i love the depth of the materials and the hq system. sure the mini game itself needs some work and there are some items that need tweaking, but is overall the best system in any mmo i have played to date. i am speaking of the way it is now.

i have my concerns about the upcoming system, but i guess i will just have to wait and see. i just feel like alot of what i enjoy about crafting is being taken away and not fixing the parts that i think could have been improved upon. that's only a personal opinion though.

    Yea, crafting is really amazing.
    Spamming the Standard action.

I love to look at the equip i made and see every mat i used on it.
    It's so realistic.
But the 2h that it takes me to craft an item in game, i could use to make myself a sweater, or something.
Then i would stop and admire every single thread on it.
    Just like FFXIV!
