Why are they so crazily priced on NA servers? They're around 1.5 million on Tonberry (all 16).

Are Diadem gathering parties common there? I think that's the main bottleneck on Diabolos (well, that, and most of our crafters are rich, greedy bastards—not really excluding myself from that, I hoard gil >.>).
I'm sure it will, yes. I learned pretty early on in ARR that gil was important for a lot of things I wanted (crafted gear, pentamelds, and most especially, the Zodiac weapons), so I decided to always try to be prepared for each major patch. Long years in FFXI taught me to always have a good way to make money, too, so I suppose it was just natural for me.

Can't say for the other items, but the Pterodactyl related items are quite common.

Yeah, that's almost 3 times as many pterodactyls as are available on Diabolos. Those are the hardest ones to get since they're from fishing, so I expect the others are relatively more common on Tonberry, too. That likely plays a part in things.

What are you talking about? I got them all for free.
(Gathering your own mats and having it made isn't hard people.)
Yeah you could do it that way also, though you at least paid the craft master a thank you fee right? So not really free is you did unless it was a friend and most people don't have that and if they fail the HQ what then you spend more or farming more so not really free.

I made 2 of them myself and the other two I got someone to make for me, no charge, but I did give a tip just to be nice.
Really it's not difficult to just be social and get someone to make it for you. Even if it does cost you a little it's always less than buying it outright, people who spend millions on these honestly super easy to make items have no one to blame but themselves.
The buyers are more to blame for the high prices than the sellers.I don't think people are mad about the fact crafts are included in the relic quest, but are mad at the crazy markup most of the "greedy crafters" are selling them for on the English servers. None of the the components are crazy hard to get as you pointed out (unlike the Zodiacs which required Big Fish and desyned mats. The crafted items that required those cost around 100k during their heyday on most servers). Few would be complaining if they were selling for 50k to 100k on the MB, but as people are pointing out they are being sold for 10 to 20 times as much.
If they didn't sell for high prices, the cost would plummet very quickly. As I stated anyone complaining about prices should go get the mats themselves as it's not hard, and if you don't have a gatherer well time to get one.

I should have quoted "crazy markup."The buyers are more to blame for the high prices than the sellers.

It is more a supply chain issue on Siren from what I can tell.
HQ Adamantite Nuggets are 40k each
HQ Dawnborn Aethersand is 140k each
HQ Pterodactyls are 35k each
HQ Birch Lumber is 8k to 10k each
That is 293k base if a Blacksmith/Leatherworker specialist buys the mats off the MB for each Franncesca.

The developers have a strange idea of what the word casual means.

This would be a fair accusation - if the devs had ever claimed the Relic or Anima weapons were casual. They haven't. Because they're not. Not even remotely. And they were never intended to be.
They involve activities that are within the abilities of most casual players, but the long grind puts them WELL outside the casual category.
It is players on these forums - not developers! - that keep insisting Relic/Anima are meant for casual players, in spite of the overwhelming evidence against this claim.
