This is a REALLY good point. And that's the inherent problem with combining 2 polar opposite jobs in the manner that they are.I can understand that Archer is not Bard is not Archer...
What annoys me though.. is that Bard should be leveled up as a bard... not as an archer who can then toss on an awkward bow and suddenly gets a slew of abilities that change their role completely.
In ffxi if you leveled up Paladin you didn't get Whitemage free.
If they want to allow archer to unlock access to bard... I'm not all that for it, but I'm not vehemently against it either... but atleast require some form of progression as the bard for it to become useful.
The jobs don't need to progress on the same scale as classes... but it shouldn't be that every level 50 archer is also now a level 50 bard if they want to be.

Aye, I agree as well. Though, if the abilities do come gradually through the quest system, I imagine it would be a very creative and satisfying storyline.

Put simply, wtf this makes no sense.

Doesn't make sense but I would prefer a corsair-like job over running laps back and forth between group members.
That's the point though. We shouldn't have to choose from 2 crappy options. Running laps, or a nonsensical Crosair-ish job. It's not like there aren't ways to fix this problem, they're just apparently not taking that route.

Don't forget that, at some point, Musketeer will be added into the game. Having both ranged classes focused only on an offensive role would be redundant, so one of them needs to be changed up a bit.

I can't wait to see that set-up. Though, I imagine that MSK will still evolve into a professional gambler, lol.
I think it's funny that the job system turns FFXI on its head. We'll never deal with people who never skilled up their abilities, we'll deal with people who never learned their jobs. "What do you mean you're a 75PLD with 50 shield skill!?" will turn into "What do you mean you're a level capped Pugilist with no monk training (quests completed)!?!?"
Sounds fun. I can't wait to see the possible barcher story -- and MSK.

Christ... here we go. Did you know that you rank them side by side? You don't rank Archer then suddenly get Bard at 50. It is explained so far that you do a quest to unlock the profession and more quests for the abilities starting at a lower rank. This is an ongoing option through your progression of Archer. You will have the ability to switch to Bard if the party calls for it, but you're still ranking Archery. Do you get it now? Bard, their version of it anyway, is a more specific subdivision of a bow user.I can understand that Archer is not Bard is not Archer...

This is just the start of the job and class system. Who says that there will not be more subdivisions to Archery in the future?

I understand and agree with what you're saying, but I think what Ferth meant is come the release of the Job system anyone who already has Archer capped will have a capped Bard once they unlock the job. No progression in the job unless you happen to be ranking Archer at the time of release.Christ... here we go. Did you know that you rank them side by side? An easy remedy would be unlocking more skills for a job through quests rather than solely through the class rank. I vaguely recall them saying that would be the case.
