Why do so many people FAIL at dps.

I also both agree and don't agree. I don't like the sports team analogy, because there are many types and standards of team and competition ranging from casual play for fun, through amatuer competition and on towards more professional leagues.

My sports team analogy was more in regards to casual teams that the average person would join, rather than professional games. I think even in those casual leagues, it's important to try your best. I agree that the effort one needs to apply does correlate with the difficulty of the content. That said, I think providing minimal effort (auto attacks, spamming 1 skill etc), is never acceptable.

I'd like to note that I never harass anyone for poor play, and simply get over with the dungeon and complain about them to my friends. I think it is ridiculous that people play like that though.

*sigh* i give up, another uses those logs against me for speaking out. Unless i play perfectly they will only use those logs i have no voice and should not speak let alone, do.

The forums are not the most compassionate, constructive or respectful places, take heart and enjoy your game. Unfortunately, poor DPS will continue to happen as long as there are players of this game. Even if everyone typically played well, there would still be people who don't feel well, are tired, having a bad hair day, distracted, bored, drunk, etc... Broadly speaking I think most posters would agree that players should be held accountable, unfortunately they do not agree on the methods of dealing with that.

I understand and can agree, though I'd still like to hold out the example of a group of friends kicking a soccer ball around in the park, as the most casual form of a team sport that doesn't really require folks to be serious, because it is literally just for fun. A lot of content in FFXIV falls into that category imho.

Imagine if everyone just tried their best to perform and improve, have fun and treat everyone respectfully and compassionately. How diferent a world it would be.

The problem is that you're speaking down on other players for not playing optimally, when you yourself aren't doing so. That's hypocrisy at best.

Hell, the poster that replied to you even critiqued on what was wrong that could be addressed, and you shoved it aside.

You also did mention something about not using blizzard II so you can avoid AoEs.

You haven't seen my friend's pulls. It's the entire room at once, or multiple rooms. The ground is red everywhere from aoes until at least half die. When they're near death and if the other dps is low I run in, Miasma 2 and might throw a Blizzard 2 or two, before putting Shadowflare back up and finishing them with Ruin 2. If the dps is high, I might have barely enough time to Deathflare and see everything dead.

Yeah, but I think the key thing there is you are playing with friends. When in a duty finder you aren't with friends who have all agreed to just kick the soccer ball around. Most people go in with the expectation of something more.

I have not seen your friend's pulls. But I've done every pull in Heavensward dungeon with pulling the maximum amount possible. Anyway, I feel like I am beating a dead horse. If your friend pulls 10 guys and it's too hectic to get in and blizz 2, use Tri-Bind. If it's not too hectic to get in there, go in and use Blizzard II.

I may have her name but ill never be like her, doing my best and having group say i did good dps always put a smile on my face, it made me enjoy the game but those saying im bad, I see that, wither you are afk dpsing, dont know your class or doing your best, if they low numbers even little. Everyone is the same, we are all bad, that truth kills my fire.
