Why do so many people FAIL at dps.

Why does it seem like people don't even read anything before they comment? The OP provides specific examples where a player, not due to a disability of any kind, is simply refusing to use the abilities he has at his disposal. I suppose if I was able to look through the aether at my fellow player and see he's missing fingers from his hands I will applaud him for the effort he's putting in, because it would still be significantly more than what I see from a lot of players. Simply not using Gauss Barrel because you don't like the cast times? Maybe you should play something else? I don't like cast times on Bard either, but I do it because that's the right way to play it. I don't determine what's the right way to play a job, Yoshi does that. The game does show you how you should be combining your abilities. Remember back to leveling Black Mage and the tutorials where the sole purpose was to teach you what Astral Fire or Umbral Ice are. You can't say the game doesn't tell you how to play. It does a fairly good job at showing you how without straight up playing the game for you. Time to find a better excuse for chronic-underperformers.

PS: This isn't limited to just DPS; this includes healers and tanks, too.

Two things:

* There is no way to evaluate your own performance in combat as there are no official DPS meters or any other means of seeing your output.

* Until the 8-man raids nothing in the game actually pushes players to do more than button mash.

The problem ultimately stems from a combination of these two points. A very large number of players in this game are bad because they have no idea how bad they actually are and the game itself never pushes them to improve.

This problem would go away if we had more challenging content in regular dungeons and such. As long as the game is made as easy as possible to cater to these players they will never get better.

Its simple. They never read skill's description and they are pressing the wrong skills or never do their buffs and debuffa in targets. Most of the time that's the reason. Some others its their gear but mostly is that they do not not the right rotations.

Good for you. I personally have no trouble picking up new languages super fast, but I don't go around the world and tell everyone how much they suck because they aren't as gifted.
Are you the type of person to go up to someone in a wheelchair and ask them why they don't run as fast as you?
There are VARIOUS reasons for people to play their class worse than you, and it's incredibly rude to just assume they are lazy just because they stuggle with something that comes easy to you.

Are you this much a--nitpicker-- in game? The forums usually bring out the worst in people, but i have run into those that just INISIST on harping on the party when the first wipe occurs.

As far as Gauss Barrel goes, I'm prone to toggleing it on and off depending in the situation. Like If I need to DPS hard and STILL haul ass around AoEs I'll toggle it off for mobility then reactivate it when it's safe to hold still for a bit.

There's people who genuinely don't know how to play their job and are receptive to advice, then you have those who don't give a shite and doesn't do more than spamming 1 or even bother to keep fists, poison or HT on.


And while on the topic of brd and mch, there's no jobs that fill the typical physical ranged gameplay of auto attacks and instant wraps skills if GB and WM are factored. That being said, they only add about 10-15% increase in damage, assuming they're playing properly. Just spamming heavy shot or split shot is actually a damage loss, and if they are slowing the run by that much, then there's bigger underlying problems aside from not using GB.
