Just about any other MMO with player housing blows FFXIV's out of the water. People who rave about how amazing and extensive XIV's housing is have apparently never looked at what is offered in many other MMOs, like EQ2, Wildstar, Rift, even more obscure (and far lower budget) MMOs like Ryzom and Istaria.. to name just a handful. If they have, and they're still praising XIV's as being something "amazing", then they're being dishonest, or have a lack of perspective/proportion.
What places every other MMO with a housing system above XIV's right out of the gate is the simple fact that, in every other MMO with it, every single character is able to acquire one - even multiple if they wish and have the gold/currency for it. Guaranteed. None of this "sorry, you can't get a house because they're all taken and our implementation doesn't support any more without us having to do months of work applying band-aids to make it possible... for the first couple hours, before they're all bought up and it's right back to the same mess again.
How long did it SE to implement the system where plots are automatically relinquished if abandoned? Yeah, LoTRO from almost a decade ago says hi. Funnier still, in LoTRO, they had house abandonment accounted for, alongside the ability to dynamically spawn new neighborhoods (wards) as existing ones filled up. So they had it covered at both ends. From the start. That's called "thinking ahead and preparing".
I make these points to illustrate that there are things that other MMOs have done, very very well, from the start, and SE apparently didn't bother to take a look at when creating XIV's version of it. They're running into problems that were already solved by other developers years ago.
I find it amazing that some people, such as the OP, would actually call XIV's housing "Amazing", considering the far superior examples of it that exist, and have for years now. Compared to what other MMOs have done, for a decade now, there is nothing 'amazing' about XIV's housing. It looks nice. It has some nice furnishing and customization options. Beyond that, there's really nothing "amazing" about it.
IMO, of course. Others obviously will disagree, but I'd just suggest they go and take a good *honest* look at what other MMO's offer in that area, and then ask themselves, again *honestly*, if what SE offers is really anything to rave about by comparison.
