    1. To raid you need to buy from Gil Sellers or be rich or lucky.
    2. To do anything you need a certain gear type which makes it harder to get new people into raiding.
That didn't happen with WoW's gemming and enchanting systems, but gold was incredibly easy to make and didn't require a large time investment. I just leveled my mining class in 2 days mining the exact route for over and over, and then used that same route to sell the ore and made more than enough gil to afford gems for the next entire expansion cycle that way, kinda getting offtopic here though. An easy solution would be to add materia for Esoteric so you're making materia while just doing your daily roulettes to either sell or use.

I would rather punch myself in the face then stand in place and click buttons. Crafting is so boring, I would rather work at a job.

What does not liking Diadem have to do with anything?

You asked for an easy way to get Materia and Diadem is an extremely easy way to.
It sounds to me like you're just looking for a reason to complain here. You don't want to do content? You don't get the rewards, it's really that simple. Maybe you should play another game.

Materia really isn't a "reward", it's just another grind that they're forcing on players. Instead of requiring a BiS slot set to output maximum DPS, you now need a BiS set + materia (unless you played a class that required materia already for raiding). The worst part is the materia doesn't add interesting stats, so it doesn't solve the boring stat problem people have been complaining about since forever.

Then why am I playing this game and not another game like Guild Wars 2 with plenty of Zerg content?

Honestly, that is a poor excuse. Materia should drop from dungeons at a common pace if Dungeon gear will have materia slots.

I have 574 Brass spoils right now. I forget how many per Grade 5 you need, but that's still going to be a good amount I don't need to spend gil on later.

3.2 gear will probably have a higher chance to convert into Gear 5 materia as well, and once some of the Diadem changes come into effect I'll go back in and farm it more for tokens (only really going in there to gather for now)

Also, don't forget that Grade 5 cannot be overmelded, so you don't need a lot of them. Grade 4 will still be the ones you need to get a lot of.

I hope diadam is not gonna be only thing how we can collect V materias. Would be nice if you could buy those with old tomestones. I would even farm relic twice rather than do any diadams..

    1. As a person who got all Savage Aim/Might IV for their Relic, why they hell would it turn people to do any of those things? Heck until HW that was the norm. There would be spiritbind parties like there were back then. If you resort to gil buying you should have your account ban hammered so hard.

    2. That's how most MMOs work? Gear is a relevant feature of the progression.

That is still quite a lot of gil, gil you didn't have to spend before. It will be quite sad when you "lose" more money then you actually make doing dungeons.

Then the dungeons need to reward a lot more gil, or have Materias as a common drop. Of course gear will always be replaced, but it seems like its adding complexity just to make it more complex. Changing the system after years is what gets people to quit.

    "Didn't have to spend before"

Lol, I've had to have melded gear since I started raiding as a tank seriously (Final Coil). Melded accessories are so good for progression its not funny.

And making gil is not hard at all. I haven't done any serious crafting or gathering since 2.x sometime, and I have 40mil on me (started 3.0 with like 25 mil, and spent...idk, maybe 20mil or more). And no, haven't done a ton of run selling either.

What do I have to spend gil on? Maybe some glamour, the relic mats (if I don't go get friends to make them for me) and food/pots. Oh, and teleports.
