Actually personal chocobos started out slower than rentals. If you maxed out their speed you would go as fast as rentals.not at first, orginally it was just luck of the draw if you got one of the colored ones. (you were more likely to get a colored one from a drop, than the purchased, but I still got a red for a purchased egg) Actual attributes to the chocobo didn't come until Breeding and Racing were introduced.
When XI first introduced personal chocobos they didn't have breeding that came in a later patch.
edit: Oh yeah and the actual attributes for you chocobo were affected by how much time you spent(wasted) in actually going and talking to your chocobo while it was still a chick. if you spent no time with it, it was AS fast as a rental, not slower.
Don't worry, I understand. Thinking about Dynamis puts me to sleep =P
If that's a quest then so is pay seals > get chocobo. That is a quest...
Find Forest > Speak to Moogle about chocobo > catch chocobo > get chocobo
is a world apart from
Buy chocobo
Not that any of that is relevent because Most FFs didnt even give you a personal chocobo you had to catch a new one every time.
Nine and Eleven being the only exceptions.
And V, with Boco.Find Forest > Speak to Moogle about chocobo > catch chocobo > get chocobo
is a world apart from
Buy chocobo

But the seals you need to buy a chocobo issuance dont just magically pop into your inventory when you create your character, you have to work for them. Thus you have to work for your chocobo. You have to work for rental chocobos too, a whole 10 ranks of work :P.
Working for seals by doing a bunch of unrelated tasks is not the same thing as having a quest that explains through lore about how and where you got your chocobo and why it trusts you.And V, with Boco.

It's not really a Personal chocobo if you have no personal relationship with it.
its a company issue chocobo, youll have to take the issuance to the chocobo npc, im sure he will have a few words to say on the matter.
Except you forget the part about needing seals and having to get a rank up through quests in order to get your chocobo. Sorry you are not a new player but if you look at it from a new player point of view there is enough progression before you get your own chocobo and the quests will be at their level.Find Forest > Speak to Moogle about chocobo > catch chocobo > get chocobo
