Well, I see it like joining an FC. If your first one doesn't work out, I don't know any players at all who would just never join one again.
Even if there are no rewards, its something i would be interested in doing. Those who need the rewards to motivate them to do this should not be doing it in the first place. Some of us dont need shinies to be nice to other players.
probably...although Id ont agree at all..Mentors can easely be set in the same category...to show off that they know everything and the rest is just dirt under their feet....you know the superiority complex
Nope this Mentoring is not a good idea whatsoever, this of course being my own interpreation of it.. Not to mention powerlevelling.at least to a certain level.. how is that going to help newby is beyond me
Since we don't have any real details on it, why just not try to see the positive side of it.
It's a good initiative from SE, and I'm totally up for it. I like to help (new) players, but not all of them want help.
This would be a great way to bring the ones that want to get help and those that want to help.
The best thing, to be sure for no abuse, is that there is no reward.
I actually hope this is server based tho, because then you can stay in touch with that person easily. In my FC I've got a couple of friends who want to sign for it and we thought of setting an LS with those players then. We shall see, next live letter/patch can't come soon enough.
They have mentioned there will be different levels of training dummies, and they will basically be your checks for both mechanics and DPS - and you will need to beat them. That in itself will be your parser - I beat this and this dummy.
(super serious)I don't know what to put here so I've put this here as a placeholder until I figure it out.(super serious)
Recruitment code if you are starting out: FTB8JBQ5
They actually had this to say about “The Hall of the Novice” and “The Mentor System” features within the “Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XXVI Q&A Update Thread”:I wonder how exactly the mentoring system will work other than pairing up expert players with newbies (isn't that what the DF sort of is now?) I'm willing to help others, but I'm afraid other people will only do it for the shinies and might belittle newbies who aren't getting things right.
Even though I'm far from a newbie, I'll check out the training hall myself just to see how it is. Might be interesting!
Patch 3.2 Content Part 5
The Hall of the Novice
Players will be able to train in two ways; training which doesn’t involve roles, and training for each role. Training which doesn’t involve roles will be available right before entering Sastasha which involved dodging area of effect attacks. After this players will be able to start training for each roles which has about seven tasks each. There is also something like a graduation, and players will be rewarded with gear when completing it. There will be a specific building for this. There will be explanation for terms such as “DoTs”.Apparently they want to introduce a Mentor system for all available Disciples, including the Disciples of the Land and Hand. Hmmm, that’s interesting.Patch 3.2 Content Part 6
The Mentor System (Tentative)
This system will allow veteran players to be called “Mentors” for Disciple of War/Magic and also Disciples of the Land and Hand. Once players become a “Mentor” they will be able to use a system which will help new adventurers. This is basically a system where people can help out. Players will be able to use features such as a roulette called the “Mentor Roulette.”
Credit goes to Niqo'te for her fabulous art in the "Nique's happy fun time!"-thread and Nix/Capa for the Caitlyn drawing to the right. \(^_^ )/
Give her your support by liking their art!
It also mentions "becoming" a Mentor, which means it's probably not something everyone and their granny can just queue up for. Maybe a commendation requirement?

I'm quite aware. I just find it still lacking for those who really want to see their output and its dynamics. Knowing that you managed to get through something is still quite different than knowing what you did right and what you did wrong. The majority of any information actually useful for self-improvement... lies with the parser. All the more so as the dummy is better able to replicate real circumstances for convenient but realistic parses.
You're forgetting this is the FFXIV team. They aren't allowed to make content where people who are bad could be excluded.
Finally! Somebody will give some real direction in this game. I just hit level 50 today. Thats 50 not 60; on my first character that I made back in February!
