Even if there is no reward I would still sign up for it.

I really hope the required achievements they mention actually require enough to give a good chance at guaranteeing some real skill/knowledge, or that there's some other way to check this. Most of the really "helpful" people I know, those who not just willing but prefer to go out of their way for others over working on their own stuff, are usually rather mediocre at best at their jobs... Correlation, not causation, and working on a sample size of no more than fifty or so, but it still makes me fear this a bit.
@Miscreant
I am with you on this. How is a newby going to know for sure that what he is taught is right ? he cant. How is an experienced player that think he is doing everything right since nobody, as it is today, did say to him anything, going to teach somethign right to a newby since himself is doing everything wrong? how is an experienced player going to teach a newby other then it is done today....aka do dungeon with him?
I am not sure this is goign to add anything to what we have today if not create more ignorant players as in ignorant (true meaning of the word)...I would rather not have mentors...I wont be mentorying anyone personally, I cant, I am not good enough to mentor someone.

The best players* are rarely the best teachers. Some people are just naturally gifted or more adept at certain things, they intuitively process information and react quicker than most people, so it's hard to "teach" those kind of qualities.
*Players, athletes, craftsman, anything really. A sorta recent example is Barry Bonds getting back into baseball as a hitting coach. He's arguably one of the best hitters of all time, but that doesn't automatically make him a good hitting instructor. A new player isn't going to hit like Bonds used to just because he's the coach.. If that makes sense (he could very well end up being a good coach, but it's just an recent example from a discussion I heard)

I am really excited for this system I hope it works well!! On Ultros a friend of mine made a LS called beginners hall and I and many others took up the shroud of mentors. We were chosen to be mentors because of our competence and desire to help, we did this before HW came out to catch up the new players on the server. (Sadly dormint now, people too busy with new content) If the system can have any affect like it did that would be wonderful, maybe the more "mentor" commendations you get the more people know you are a reliable mentor. Many caveats here but it is a good step forward.![]()

Really looking forward to it. It just gives you the fuzziest feeling when you see them grow up ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
YOU WILL CALL ME SENPAI OR I WILL RAGE QUIT!
I'm hoping this training hall will become mandatory. Main reason being that I feel it's time for the players to learn to do their jobs in an okay or higher manner. Tired of seeing crap tanks, healers, and DPS in DF. And by crap, I mean tanks who don't know how to hold aggro or pop a cooldown, healers who spam their high level spells and thus gain too much aggro or run through their MP too fast, and DPS who don't even know how to keep DoTs up.

I am curious to see how it turns out. It'd be nice to help out lowbie-level FC mates without crushing their xp due to level differences.
And as for "that's what DF is for" naw, DF is for belittling each other and showing off just how gimongous your e-peen is.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
