So the Live Letter has revealed the next trial to be Sephiroth, one of the Warring Triads

As mentioned on reddit, FF7 Sephiroth was probably named after the Kaballah Tree of Life Sephiroth, so he's not exactly the originator of said name. In fact FF6's Sephiroth was probably named after the Kaballah Sephiroth too.

Now here's where it gets interesting..

The Warring Triad fiend was セフイロスin the concept art which is also how you spell FF7's Sephiroth's name in kana

whereas in the live letter he is セフイロト which is how you spell the Kaballah Sephiroth in kana

FFXIV's Sephiroth might be a combination of all those things!

I really doubt the Warring Triad's Sepiroth is anywhere related to FFVII's Sepiroth, other than the name...and being fiends.

In XIV, is there any mention to the Warring Triad being linked together or having any kind of relation to each other like in FFVI? It took me as a bit of a surprise that we're already fighting one of the 3. Wondering if this would throw some stuff out of whack with Azys Lla or would everything still be the same.

As the story continues it's likly we'll systematically destroy all 3. I'd say they awaken at the same time and Sephiroth is simply the 1stbof the three we engage.

Sephirot is already mentioned in game. The temple in Azys Lla has a Sightseeing entry that mentions it was brought there by the Allagans to study religious practices in their studies of Primals. The temple used to belong to a plantlike Beasttribe who worshipped Sephirot.

The Sephirot we will be fighting is like the Eikon they worshiped.

FFVII Sephiroth will probably be recognized my most of the players and will probably have the largest appeal to the playerbase.

However, It is possible it is a different entity altogether similar to how the Ascians are a reference to Ivalice namely FFXII. Same name but different idea in the execution.

I'm just disappointed that, if what Yoshida has said in the past about the new trials not being MSQ unlocks still holds true, the Triad are destined for obscurity and irrelevance just like every other non-Coil "major threat" we've dealt with in the past. Adding Unukulhai to "the list."

You'd think they'd want to keep them together for completeness, since this current swath of MSQ isn't a requirement for the next expansion, but I don't make the rules. I'm guessing the MSQ is written with the assumption that Alexander and the Triad have already been dealt with in the 3.0-3.1 gap. /shrug
