    the true is,

I love FFXIV , because it is fresh and it runs a theme i like. FFXI is my all time favorite, best FF in my book.

I never like FF7 or 6 like most people here. I actually think ff8 got a great story and ff9 is very good as well, also i really like FF10 and x-2, however 12 and 13 is horriblely main for game play, but story is pretty good.

    If i have to rate.

    Strong- FFXI, FFXIV, FF9, FF10 + x-2, FF8, FF6, 5, and 7. I can't rate the rest, i don't like them at all, 1-4 is pretty boring as well.

I am serious about the fact i found FFXIV is better, if it isn't i wouldn't played that game for last 6 months and played it more hours then other FF (beside FFXI).

If you talk about sad theme, Lion scene in FFXI or Prishe (ending or even TOAU ending, FF7 crisis core zack's ending, FFX's ending (before X-2 is out) is definitely not worser then FF7 aerith.

In order from those I played thoroughly and not just once through:

    IX > XI > V > II > III > VIII > XIV > CC > X-2 > XIII > MQ > XII

These I feel really capture what Final Fantasy is, even XIV will someday because it's pretty clear they're moving it towards that direction.

    X-2.. :runs for dear life:

mm actually prolly just FF-X itself, was my favorite. The colors, the water, the characters, it was all perfect (loved Auron too much). I still choke up inside each time I watch the end, as Tidus vanishes.. excuse me I have something in my eye

I'm pretty much a fan of all of them for various reasons, so I don't know if I can pick an absolute favorite as much as I can give a top five, which would include FFVI, FFIV, FFXIII, FFXII, and FFVIII.

Oooooh. I like this one. I've only played from VII on. IX didn't interest me, and I didn't have a computer when XI came around. X-2 looks.... scary.

#1) FFVII. Used to be a toss up with my second choice until they started putting out all the additional stories. I'd also pick it as my favorite for gameplay as well. Favorite Character: Aeris/Aerith

#2) FFVIII. I loved this story. The gameplay was pretty good too, and I liked the card game a lot. Favorite Character: Squall

#3) FFX. Good story, but annoying ending. Gameplay was fine, but I kinda missed making up my own voices and while the detail in the general play was nice, I felt like they took away from the movie scenes. I always felt like the movie scenes were like a reward. I know I'm probably one of the few in the world who would be content to play on FFVIII's level of graphics for all the games. Favorite Character: Yuna

#4) FVIII. This game did look undeniably amazing. SE may have kinda shot themselves in the foot with it. :/ The story was good, although I wish they would have had Lightning stand out more rather than all of them be at the forefront together. I'm guessing because of the level of detail, they couldn't make a world map or flying ships or all that other stuff that make FF games fun. I felt like I was following a cookie crumb trail. There is Archylte Steppe, but that is a zone map, not a world one. Favorite Character: Lightning

#5) FXII. By far my least favorite out of all I have played, simply because the story was not interesting in the least. I don't even hardly remember it. It's too bad because it had some nice characters, Fran standing out the most, but there was nowhere in the story that really gave them a place to shine. In the end, you really didn't care about what happened to them too much. The game play was fine, but I found myself missing the more traditional battle approach. If the story had been good, that wouldn't have mattered at all though. I also really felt like they borrowed heavily from the look of Star Wars. That really annoyed me. Favorite Character: I guess Fran since she is the only one whose name I remember correctly. I also liked her friend, and the noble boy who helped them out.

All in all, as the trend seems to be going, I think the level of detail the graphics these days demand have been taking away from other aspects of the game. It takes a long time to make those graphics. I think thats why later games have suffered. FVII and FVIII offered so much more in terms of gameplay than later titles. Especially FXIII.

It's interesting that I liked Hope's character before the culmination of his story in Palumpolum, where he then proceeded to become what to me is the worst kind of anime cliche. I think that's probably the biggest problem with FFXIII: It's reliance on too many anime tropes. Other than that, I thought the game was great.

I definitely agree that SE may have shot themselves in the foot by deciding to always go "bawls out" with Final Fantasy development in terms of budget-crippling audio/visual fidelity. I'm not saying they should have gone the same route as Dragon Quest, although I think they should consider scaling back a bit so they can focus on other elements of their games as well.

Being that due to the NGP's OLED allows for graphics visually similar to "modern"(6-year-old) HD consoles due to the small screen, I think they could save quite a bit of dough on visual assets being that they don't have to create them to be uber high res. I don't think they'd have to sacrifice far TOO much on audio or space for content, being that there should be far more space on a High Capacity SD card than there ever was on a UMD(ick). If the NGP manages to seize up a decent market share, this might not be too terrible of an idea.
