A very difficult question... FFVII is what started it all off for me and my love for FF was upheld by each and every FF game I-XI. My favourite keeps changing depending on which one I have replayed recently. I think my long-standing favourite was VIII but then I went and replayed VII and fell in love, then I played X and the same thing happened lol. If I had to chose I would probably pick VI-X as equal favourites

For me the series went downhill when Square became SquareEnix (X-2 onwards), without exception... At least I have the old ones to keep me happy

my answer is a very hard one because i played every ff besides xi xii(sorry i was burnt originally by the original everquest with 1454945749574 expansion packs). after the eq disaster i swore off all mmo type games and stuck to single player rpg's.

as much as i loved them all i would have to go with ffvii. my only reason is it was the first in the ff series i played and then afterwards i had to go back and get every game in the series to play them. the thing i loved was the immense storyline and the way the games just pulled you in and you had to go do and see everything in these games.

No doubt in my mind, FFIX.

I know that it was my first FF game and all, but it's story, setting, and lore was so amazing to me. I loved the equipment based status, and learning abilities from Items. Vivi filled me with inspiration and has always been my model BLM since then.

FF7 was fun as well, and it is the debatable favorite among the majority of ff fans. Since my first play of ff9 I have played through FF1,3,7,9,10,10-2,11,12,14. I'm still working on playing through the others. Yet of the platform games, 9 remains my favorite. MMO had been xi.

Definately FFXI. The world, lore, and characters captivated me more than any other game ever has.

    My top 3 are FF3, FF4, and FF6.

FF3 was a great game for it's generation. However I didn't like the DS version that much compared to the FC version.

FF4 was the first real FF that goe me in the series (MQ and SMRPG were the first RPGs I played to spark my interest)

FF6 is hands down my favorite good story, great characters, and overall a pretty fun game.

6, so deep and was the last game that wasn't completely EMO and gave a great sense of fusion between real world tech and fantasy.

The story line was original and engading without being SO abstract (see FFXIII) that it loses touch, which is something square could benefit from by going back to.

The main character and all supporting characters seemed to have real emotions and reactions to events and character development instead of cloud's "I will be emo/14 years old forever" or leon's "I am completely emotionless/14 years old forever". Deep worldwide story that applies to real world history. And it was surrounded by games like chronotrigger and secret of the mana. Those were Squares golden years.

Hope was actually my second favorite character.

Without a doubt the best FF games in my opinion would be FF8 or FF7. (8>7)
    Reasons
FF8 had triple triad, the best mini game ever.
    The magic and junction systems.
    The story line
