14 Chapters Later Which Final Fantasy did you prefer?

Since we do not have the option for obvious reasons to play XIV right now, I figured I would start a topic that might take us away from the bickering and arguing on these forums and bring us back to a dose of FF reality.

So which Final Fantasy do you prefer? Is it the 1987 Original the game that started it all? Are you a FFVII freak who is still looking for the Aerith Revival Materia, or are you stuck in the days of the SNES in FFVI/FFIII looking for a way to prevent Kefka from destroying the planet? Perhaps your still intrigued with Lady Yunalesca and winning that effervescent Blitzball match... Or perhaps your still waiting for that Absolute Virtue kill... whatever your fancy tell us here.

As a side note for those that do not know FFIII on the SNES was FF6 in Japan

I still think 7 and its extended Lore are my favorite, especially after playing through the fantranslation of the PC version so that it includes a huge majority of the proper language and content that was missing from the shitty EA translation here in the states.

FF8 was fun, but only during the Laguna scenes, I still think they should take the Crisis Core model and make a FF8 game around Laguna Loire where it starts off as him as a teen and goes through the entire story from his point of view

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Personally I have to say its the FF that brought me into the series, which is FFIX. I loved FFIX because the storyline was great, had the best villian, the only downside is the last bossfight was a little random. Also had the most lovable FF character ever, VIVI!!!!!!! I do like all the other FF1-14, though I have not played 6 or beat 13 yet, but I am planing on it soon. :O

It is not the quantity of friends you have that determines your worth, its the quality of friends that does.

That's a hard decision for me I've only not liked a couple of the Final Fantasy games. (Like ff2, ffx-2 and tactics) Though I guess I'd have to say that I have the biggest fondness for FFVI because it was the first game I ever laid eyes on and instantly fell in love with the game even though I wasn't allowed to play it... long story behind that.... anyway it's rare for me to play a final fantasy game and not like it. ^_^

    I haven't played 4,5,6,8, X-2.

Out of the ones I have played, for me, 7 and 10 are on par. Some may argue that Clouds a bit emo or Tidus is a bit of a bender but I think they're the best, game play and story wise. I also quite liked 12, as it was something different, apart from Vaan (Gay boy) the characters were great and story was pretty good, shame about the length of it though. I liked the whole monster hunting thing and getting all the extra summons.

I just need something to play them on, ps2 broke and I don't have a ps3, someday I may buy one. Just for FF though, nothing else.

Ah the memories... FF IV being my all-time favourite for it's dark tale of betrayal and sacrifice. When the twins used their will to turn to stone... I was in complete shock the first time. The beginning of my favourite character, Kain... The Dark Knight struggles of Cecil, the character growth of Rydia. Lali-Ho!

FF IX holds a close second as it is a tale of misguided trust and hope, only to have those hopes shattered and then they are forced to recover. All along you watch, knowing full well that Dagger and Steiner will one day have their morals shattered by those they believed in.

FF VII hold another spot because of how open the ending was, and the fact that the world did take a major hit while saving the world. Showing us that not everything ends up the way we hope when obtaining what we need.

FFIII/FFVI, such a good game it's referred to with two different numbers. It also predates the the transformation from something closer to an amazing piece of literature, instead of the current incarnation of token/stereotypical (not Tolkien) characters, with a couple being overly "cute" characters who seem to be lacking any sentient thought (Yuffie/Selphie/FF9/Rikku/Tarus/Penelo/Vanille) and one ugly anorexic leading female short of a twilight film.

I started out on 7, I liked it and got addicted to huge swords, i could never get into 8 but Gunblade is awsome, I absolutely loved everything about 9, hell I even learned to love Quina once 11 taught me how awsome blue magic is.
10 I liked everything except kimari and tidus.
11 is what got me addicted to MMO, and I played it for years on and off, quit when lvl 80 was still the cap (I was blu onry and im sad 14 has no blu!)
12 i personally hated the storyline but I loved the mark system and was pretty addicted to it.(I'll get you one day omega mark 12 and that final dragon boss whose name i cant remember and ur stupid aoe reflect that makes me cast renew on you!)
13 I loved to hell and bak! sure the lack of towns wasnt good but i loved everything else I ended up getting full achievements on that game for 360.
and somewhere between it all i found time for 1-6 and the tactics, i could never get myself into tactics tho didnt like any of them.

This is a very hard question. I've played them all and finished them, except the crystal chronicles series.
I'd have to say FF7 because it's the one that brought emotions to videogames in its era and can still do it nowadays. It's story, lore and meaning are still relevant today and are timeless.

Next is FF9 - because it is the one that defines the whole series

10, 6 and 8 are right there beside those with incredible stories too ;P
