Which is why I really really really dislike SMN in 3.0 and really really really dislike the direction it took.

Wow the entitlement is real here.
My question to you people is to define "pet class" using standardized laws that say "all jobs that use pets have to perform a specific way in every MMO, and no company is allowed to re-write their design to better suit the image of said job in their head."
FFXIV summoner was designed how SE wanted it to be designed. Don't like it? Simply don't play it. You are not some appointed authority on class design who can go around saying "you did it wrong SE." There is NO right and wrong, there is just choice.
That doesn't mean you have to happy over the design. Fine, you are unhappy. But don't ask for them to change it for players who actually prefer this job. If you want an FFXI summoner, go play FFXI. I play FFXIV for the FFXIV summoner.
Oh, no, all that is definitely disappointing beyond belief. Personally I'd just rather keep the pet AND get more out of them, even if that means losing a bit of general caster damage. At the very least, I'd very much like the opportunity to spend my resources through my pet at times instead of just Fester, Painflare, Bane. The pets just need to be revised to be a whole lot more reactive so that they at times can *feel* like a oGCD ability when using certain pet attacks.
The issue I most often see people here and in-game take with SMN isn't so much that it "doesn't work like other pet classes in other games" so much as that it feels like it taps into very few of the opportunities afforded to a class that has a pet, let alone one named after that fact. (Trance at least has found a way to bring out the namesake without being dependent on the game's slow-ish pet controls, at least, which is a nice alternate route. I just wish it didn't feel like an alternative to performing an actual fix to pet controls, variety, and relevance, which it could have been done atop, rather than in place of...)My question to you people is to define "pet class" using standardized laws that say "all jobs that use pets have to perform a specific way in every MMO, and no company is allowed to re-write their design to better suit the image of said job in their head."

Incoming personal opinions. I know people like this job and they are allowed to but I'm sure its fine if players express their dislike for it as well. Not like it's going to be changed anyway so you got nothing to worry about when it comes to a few people talking about stuff.
Arcanist should have never been a 2 job class. I feel disease based attacks and such fit Scholar more than Summoner since Scholars lore revolves around researching diseases and finding cures (Also Books were Scholar weapons in FFIII the game they were introduced in). What we got was a very thematically underwhelming job in the process because it had to share skills with its other half. It doesn't feel like a summoner so they totally missed their mark. Because of this I'm not surprised that they aren't going down the 2 job class route anymore. Not only is it very difficult to balance but it might lead to a job feeling like it's tacked on instead of its own thing.
It didn't have to be like XI at all but could they of at least tried to give the feel of a classic summoner? I mean they managed that with every other job (Except possibly Bard but that's a different discussion).
For a safer solution, could they possibly change the skills to feel more summoner and primal like yet keep the same playstyle? It would require changing skill names and spell visual effects when you equip the job crystal but it would at least be a nice nod to those who are looking for something that feels more like a summoner like while keeping the playstyle the same for those who enjoy it.

Pets simply should have gained new skills at 52, 54, 56, 58, 60. They gained skills as you leveled up to 50. But not up to 60? Nice to know SE gave the Egi's the same distinction as class traits. And the only thing they supposedly have planned for Egi's is Carbuncle glamour? Get out of here with that crap.

There have been some good points brought up here and I will attempt to address them later, it would be helpful if people would post more constructive feedback (not the square will listen anyways because we're not JP). As for those who seem to think this is every other complaint thread I think this is quite the opposite as I'm trying to find a solution that I believe would work, even if it is just to get it off my chest.
[Insert sarcastic remark]

My option would be either make the current Summoner into necromancer fits better btw and Change summon 3 to zombie, make summon 2 to skeleton and summon 3 either a demon or a ghost and make summoner a advance job like Astro,Drk and MCH

SE would make SCH an extra job before SMN
I'm just some guy...

and that would be ok make SCH and extra job and make Necromancer a healer branching from Arcanist. using drain spells.

Honestly I've posted my ideas enough times I'm just tired of posting it anymore. Here is a search you can piggy back from: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/s...rchid=40172907There have been some good points brought up here and I will attempt to address them later, it would be helpful if people would post more constructive feedback (not the square will listen anyways because we're not JP).
