    Paladins Cover and Tempered Will

    The current problem with these two paladin skills , cover and tempered will , is that they see very little to no use inside raid progression and general gameplay
    They have very limited uses only in specific encounters and offer nothing in raid progression. Here are some suggested changes to the skills that may be useful! I am also writing on mobile so may have to edit this later!

    Cover: Only active in shield oath
    With no target (party member) selected
    Creates a barrier around the user that reduces physical damage by 5% to all targets within the range of the barrier.
    With a party member selected it has the same effect as it currently does.
    duration: 10 seconds
    range: 15 yalms
    cost: drains 50 mana per second
    cooldown: 180 seconds
    Negates Mp Regen Effects when active
    Can stack with other barriers (sacred soil , etc)
    shares a recast timer with tempered will

    Possible different cooldown: the cooldown of cover if used as a single target (as it is currently in the game) can be a lower cooldown of 100 seconds but still start the recast timer for tempered will/cover as well

    Tempered Will: Only active in sword oath
    Creates a barrier around the user that increases attack power by 5% to targets within range of the barrier.
    duration: 15 seconds
    range: 10 yalms
    cost: 70 mana per second
    cooldown: 180 seconds
    Negates Mp Regen Effects when active
    shares a recast timer with Cover

    Possible Side Effect: Both skills would render the user unable to move for the duration of the abilities (the comments below argue against this idea, so i moved it out and placed it here as a possibility/just a thought)



    These changes to these two skills will give a significant amount of raid utility and general gameplay use to the paladins arsenal while adding an element to the way the job plays, and maintaining the jobs role as a tank.

    I kinda like how Tempered will and Cover is right now. the trouble isn't the skills them self's but people thinking of when to use those skills.

    Tempered will uses: besides removing heavy of course.
    T9: For when heavens fall happens. No knock back.
    Levi EX: when you don't know when the slam is coming from, TW, your safe from moving.
    A3: Wash away. No knock back.
    Typhon and Ultros, when Typhon is knocking you back.
    Thordan EX: When Faith unmoving is readying.
    Ravan EX: when he dose pilliars of heaven.
    Shiva EX: when she dose her sword stab in ground knock back.
    Titan EX: landslides.

    So got a few uses for Tempered will.

    Cover:
    T13: Earth Shakers.
    MT before they get hit by a physical Tank busters.
    A1S, cover someone before they boss lands.
    A3S, Cover the MT for a few blows.

    So yeah there is a few use for them it's just people need to think more about using them.

    It's not even that man, it's the opportunities we're actually given to utilize our skills (and subsequently effects). Alot of what you just mentioned comes out once every major patch, and that's not really justification for the skillset we have or are allowed to actually use.

    Honestly think about it, PLD has a pretty wicked arsenal of debuffs at their disposal, Pacification, Blind, Silence, the ability to chain Stun. However, anything content related is pretty much immune to everything we have. Subsequently our only resistance debuff Tempered Will is also starting to flounder, because we're starting to see more and more content related mobs that can outright override some of it's effects.

    This is why PLD can be a beast in PVP despite it's AoE and DPS shortcomings, because everyone isn't immune to PLD's debuff arsenal making them quite a monster for players on the field.

    the examples you mentioned are good but besides t13 cover for earth shakers most of the uses arent effective as a whole for the raid group. in turn 9 if you dont get knocked back but the rest of your raid group does they still have to move back into position. these skills have uses but again changing them slightly might be more beneficial and add a new dynamic to the class.
    the goal is to get these skills to be used more frequently as well as make the paladin class a bit more unique as a tank role

    This right here is a deal breaker for me. Increasing raid dmg is nice and all, but not at the expense of dodging avoidable dmg or sacrificing position, especially if you happen to be OT. Same goes for cover.Giving a small boost to defense is not worth the massive dips in Hp that you stand to suffer by not being able to react to boss mechanics for an entire 10 seconds. Pld's raid utility would be increased, sure, but at the expense of getting smacked around a lot more than they have to or should be, especially for a Tank, and because the times in which the Raids need additional dmg or defense are usually at times in the fight where a big hit is coming soon.

    Sharing a timer and tying it to Oaths is interesting, but without additional changes to other moves this is also a no-go. If only two moves have a changed function with Oath swaps, there really isn't a point. Especially if the CD timer is 3 minutes long.

    I use mine often. Use Cover more than Tempered, but I'm glad I have them. I am not restricted to just doing Raids, so...yeah...

    If the devs made it so that you can't move while these skills are active and locked them to an oath, they'd get used even less.

    I agree with you that these skills are already very niche use, so why would you want to make them worse?

    i can see how not being able to move is detrimental, the reasoning i have is that it is not a ground aoe that you place such as sacred soil but rather a buff that requires you to be next to the paladin, and being able to move and run with the barrier would be not necessarily overpowered but go against the play style of paladin however it can be removed it doesnt have to render the user unable to move

    the cooldown is long on purpose so that it has use multiple times in a raid encounter but not too many times, also it doesnt just have to be just used in raids but in regular content these two skills, as they are now, arent as useful as everything else the paladin has to offer, even though there are situations you can use them


    also for cover i was thinking like someone mentioned can be used in a2 if it also has the effect of being used on a single target the way it is now the cooldown would be 100 seconds and function as it does currently in the game while starting the cooldown timer on tempered will/cover
