Very close.. like a few minutes before it goes live kinda close? That would be kinda mean :/

I touched on this in yesterday’s post on the repair system, but I am planning to write about the basic direction I think about in terms of FFXIV and modern day MMORPGs. Please read that as well once the letter is released.
(Considering the current development situation, it seems like the letter will be released right before patch 1.19 goes live)

That "tomorrow" being today. It's been quiet today, so maybe everyone is busy writing/translating? One can only hope anyway.

I'm still hoping we have a big surprise tomorrow. But I won't be too sad if it's just business as usual. Just more time to play Dead Island before the new claim and guildleve systems drop.

the patch would already be out if they had a test realm where people could help iron out bugs, cause i can bet you the patch is 100% done, theyre just ironing out bugs.

No, it would take even longer because apart from the additional stage of Development -> Internal QA -> Public Test they then need to filter out any crap people report because don't like how it works and therefore consider it to be a bug. Its bad enough when you need to deal with this when you use external QA companies, letting the public do your QA would be a nightmare.

The new test server for XI seems to be working out well enough. From what I've read everyone was pleased with how well the patch yesterday went off, something contributed by many to the existence of the test server.

The new test server for XI seems to be working out well enough. From what I've read everyone was pleased with how well the patch yesterday went off, something contributed by many to the existence of the test server.

You can't have a test server in my opinion on a game that does not carry a subscription fee. The value of the feedback would be extremely subpar as you'd have people like Giftfhorse potentially using it as another platform to troll the game when they do not actually play/plan on playing the game after subscription fees resume.

It would just result in them taking even longer to develop content as they have to sort through all the useless feedback. A great deal of time is wasted in beta doing this, but even then you still have a screening process in place and can even kick testers out of the program. They can't do this with a product people played for simply because they are slowing down/interfering with the testing process.

Oh, I know. I was just responding more to the notion that a test server would hamper the development process rather than XIV needing one now.

I'd rather see them focus on making a better game now than to worry about a test server, but once they're at a point where they're just adding new events/items/abilities with each patch, I think a test server would be a good idea.
