The op wanted a personal parser but people are against that? They should have a personal parser to gauge your own dps anyway. Public parser not so much.

I don't really see the benefit of a personal parser. As other pointed out, without the parse for the rest of the group, you can't really put yours into context, it would literally just be a number that appeared that meant nothing.
Even just comparing it to your own other personal parses wouldn't mean much, for example, I could imagine there being people thinking "wow I parsed 500 on that thordan, normally I only parse 400, I did awesome there", not realising that both are way short. Not to mention the obvious, outright lying, you are nowhere near meeting a dps check, then everyone claims to be parsing 1500 according to their personal parser.
If it's not public to the group, there's not really any point imo

There are tons of forum threads and logs online to compare to though, so that points kinda moot.I don't really see the benefit of a personal parser. I mean if you don't like it because you feel that it will create segregation then I get that. Saying that there's no context to compare to seems like a kinda weak point.
I don't really know why I see a number of people stating fears based on only a few run ins with people quoting parsers to harass others.
I think everyone needs to realize that for every idiot you run into that yells at people with numbers and whatnot, there's easily 100 or so that use a parser and don't harass anyone. Sure, I'm using some anecdotal evidence here, but whenever I'm pugging, I ask for my numbers (I'm a PS4 player and I like to know if something I tried in an encounter worked, or if I'm making a mistake, or if cross comparing with FFLogs shows I'm lower than I should be, which lets me know there's somewhere I could be improving on). Most of the time, someone responds with what I did. How often have I seen parsers quoted during abuse? I can think of only 3 instances. But day in and day out, I've asked and I've received without a single word of animosity towards anyone, despite many of those groups not being the best DPS wise.
There's an old saying, "Don't shoot the messenger". The parser is just relaying what you did. Blame idiots for being idiots, cause an idiot is going to be an idiot whether he has that parser or not. There will always be idiots, but let's not let the few idiots ruin an aspect of the game for the majority of others.
I probably didn't make my point particularly well in my last post. I'm very much in favour of a parser, but I think it should be public to the group, otherwise I think it loses a lot of it's effectiveness. There are tons of forum threads and logs online to compare to though, so that points kinda moot.

If it's something only you can see, I agree that you can compare online to what others are achieving (though I think many wouldn't bother), but what if your numbers are decent, and you're still not meeting a dps check? You'd still have no idea who in the party was holding everyone back.
I think everyone in the group should be able to see who's putting out what. If your numbers are OK, then why would you care if the group can see them.
Don't get me wrong, I do think that when someone's numbers are low there are those that will harass them. But this isn't BECAUSE of the parser; those people are just jerks and will continue to be jerks whether there is a parser or not.
And a point I've made before which I think is valid but often forgotten; I think a lot of the more vocal people that harass people for low dps, are sometimes not particularly good themselves, and do so to deflect attention from themselves. The truly good people don't really seem to feel the need to berate others. If everyone in the group can see everyone's numbers, it might just shut a few of those people up when they see actually they're not as brilliant as they think they are

Ok, I just misunderstood your post. I would also love to have a transparent parser. Me and my FC buddies love to compete against each other for funsies. I would love a way to be a more active participant in stuff like that. I also agree that it's usually the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.I probably didn't make my point particularly well in my last post. Seeing an overall damage and then a DPS breakdown at end of an instance would be good... but would be sketchy. It really needs to be a real time number or something that can be manually started and stopped. People are evaluating me already... only I can't even evaluate myself. Which is completely ridiculous. It's like working out but never being able to look in the mirror to analyze my progress. I would never know what I need to improve upon to make myself better.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
