Viera can be different from Miqo'te.

Not everybody wanted the Au Ra either, but it's not like we can't have both or more. The entire point of expansions is to add new jobs and races to invoke hype and appreciation!

The real reasons we don't want Viera is because the dev team couldn't/wouldn't do it and then some.
1. They couldn't do the ears, they said in an interview.

Just curious, but if they're able to do Miqo'te ears, why not Viera ears? They can already do long ears with the Gold Saucer, maybe it's just because they can't throw ear socks over everything like they do with Miqo'te.

In my opinion, I think it was just them being apathetic. Yoshida was very vocal about what he wanted to make, we never specifically said it had to be a perfect 1:1 Viera, they could've easily adjusted the ears and heels to make it fit into FF 14 and create a new version of the race specifically for FF 14. The polls ended up being totally worthless because Yoshida and team will do whatever they want without thinking about the players' opinion, disappointing.

I personally don't want Viera in the game because they're just another human race with animal bits on them .-. (that is my main reason for being against it)

I'd be happy with SE if they could make a beastman glamour of sorts (you can glamour 4-5 slots now). You'd get to play as a beastman of your choosing and SE wouldn't have to worry about making gear for them (only the weaponskill, magic casting and cooldown animations and the weapons would need work). If SE could do that, then SE adding an unoriginal race wouldn't bother me too much. I'd still be disappointed, but at least I'd be able to play as a Vanu Vanu, Amalj'aa or whatever else. Just having something that is quite clearly not a human running around the game would make it appear more diverse or something.

Every director needs to take their vision of what they want to see happen in the game, as much as fans would like to believe the opposite, they're almost always wrong. If fans had their way, Sephiroth would be a raiding boss, every class would have a buster sword one way or another, etc. There's a difference between not thinking about your fan's requests, and being a respectable director not looking to turn it into Final Fantasy fanservice galore. I do respect Yoshida for that, among many other reasons.

If they changed them to fit into FFXIV more (which I assume is make them worse, like Au Ra concept -> Au Ra in-game), I don't think they would be Viera anymore, nor would they carry the name for obvious reasons. They'd just be a race with bunny ears, so I think most people would be fine with that. I'd prefer a more beastly race, but I realize the chance of that happening is slim to none. I don't think there's a way to sensibly bring them into the lore until we travel to a new continent (most likely the New World), Au Ra lore made no sense to me. "Hey, one of us came from Doma, so now we populate 20% of Eorzea"? is how they seem to have handled it. If they added them to be a prime race in the new continent, where civilization runs on their background lore, lore themed towns/cities, then that would be great. We got it for the Ishgardians, we get them on a smaller scale for beast tribe (the entirety of the Sea of Cloud) but SE can't be assed to implement something similar for a new race?

Well, they're probably never gonna do something as advanced as that. They like having all the races use very similar models so they can use the same animations and gear without looking funny.

To add your beastman glamour, it'd take some serious work, more work than just creating the Viera, think of the bugs and clipping and other nonsense.

Colorful, FF 14 is already Fanservice Galore. Yoshida already said FF XIV is about celebrating everything Final Fantasy, you can't tell me you don't already see tons of fanservice everywhere you go. They already edit existing things to make the "14 version". Look at Dark Knight or Summoner, those are not even close to their iconic style but they're still called that.

No comment on bugs, but for clipping... I can see that only being on mounts (which already have clipping issues if you wear a robe, dress, cape-thing).

If it's on mounts, that'd be enough for them to say no, like how they removed Darkside's black flames on the DRK's feet because it looked weird when they were doing certain actions like riding a mount.

But not everyone wants Viera (and judging the likes on the first post, it's a massive minority of the forum community who wants them) and I'm sure quite a few (or perhaps a lot) players playing this game aren't a fan of blatant fan service.

Don't get me wrong, I still hate the Au Ra and think SE could have done better (the concept art for Au Ra's, especially for the females, were far better than the end result). If Viera were added into the game, I am 100% certain they will look nothing like their concept art (and finalised art. Male Au Ra for reference) and instead look more similar to one/two of the current races.

more little come to the forum now, mostly because it's know that most of itthread are useless now. when people complain (with argument and such) about content and you see them totally ignored, people tend to leave a forum.
soo far find me one thread about demand that was really listened in the forum outside the japanese one? and i don't talk of the small question that often are not pressing matter. look about the hunt, housing and now diademtrouble pointed by the player... do you really think they care? since the japanese community can use this feature we are the one at fault for them. sadly it's not like this that it work, when you introduce a feature that are only aim to a small part of the community sooner or later you will hit a wall.

more and more people are complaining about the states of the game, but do it change anything? no. that the same for the race or jobs thread.... they almost don't care, i'm maybe rude, but that how we can see the states of the forum recently. but don't worry is not only about the english forum, french forum too have some thread where people gather them mind about stuff and are simply well ignored.

Viera was a legitimate choice, outside fanservice, even if they are halfbeast humanoid, they are very different of viera and aura, they are generally taller and more elegant in them way to move. it will have been a very good add for FF14 to get an elegant race. because i'm sorry, but i don't see the elezen as elegant, they are more the noble one and i don't say it in the good side of the noble.

finally an important point, that need to be said, final fantasy franchise are a pure fanservice franchise, it was always like since almost the 3... every game did get the same monster even if they was different world, the cute stuff like chocobo or mog, even the summon was always used over and over and over. the jobs too was the same.

Asking for one of the most know race of the final fantasy franchise is natural at this point. plus they don't need to make it exactly the race of ivalice and adapt them to Eorzea. and yes, viera is one of the most know race, mostly because it's one of the race that was the most used in different game, the ivalice project did add a few game where the viera was shown. ronso and stuff like this are generally one game race, Vangaa are know as much, but they don't always please people eyes. not everyone have the capacity to identify themself to something beastly. that why this sort of race whatever the game are often one of the less played.

To be fair the Ear Socks need to be stopped
Whoever on the design team thought that it was a good idea (ESPECIALLY for cloth armor) needs to be /scold-ed.
