Rather normal that the consequences of an event would be seen *after* the fact, not sure what you're trying to say. In a situation like Thancred's and Y'shtola's, given the circumstances of their teleportation, it is pretty normal for it to have had an effect on both of them, but also, it would have been foolish to kill off the two Scions who have basically been indicated in the past to be the strongest and most capable of their group. Rather than a retcon, it's simply that the devs never intended for these characters to die, instead merely putting them in very dangerous situations and letting those play out according to their skills.
Minfilia coordinates the gathering of intelligence and sends the other Scions out on missions to investigate rumors to confirm whether Primals are being summoned or not, of course her information is helpful to us. Most importantly, her information as a fellow Echo user is what first helps us to understand why she wanted our help in fighting them.
Pretty sure I said "two of the greatest characters", implying there are several more. :P Lahabrea is definitely another great one, as is Elidibus for that matter. To truly appreciate a character, you have to recognize not just all that they do, but also their potential for doing more. Minfilia, Gaius and Lahabrea deliver on all of these fronts.
To be honest it would probably be better to have this discussion in its own thread but that ship has sailed. Cilia does have the right of it with Minfilia though.
Livia and Nabriales are the only times we save Minfilia. Elidibus did nothing to her, her bodyguard did their job with the Sahagin and we were the ones saved from the Crystal Braves. This is what I mean by embellishing to justify dislike.
- Being the WoL doesn't make us above the laws of the respective city states
- We were quite lawfully detained because of the suspected assassination of the cities leader, framed or no
- Teledji was popular with the people, particularly the refugees, due to his active efforts to provide relief and employment to the poor and displaced
- If we had just gone on a bloody rampage and won it would look like we had instigated a Coup making the accusation of assassination look more valid
- There is no such thing as diplomatic immunity in Eorzea. There is no international law. Further, we aren't even citizens of the other city states. The other GC leaders stepping in there, particularly when a ruler had been killed. It would put the alliance at risk, make it look like they were trying to protect an accused assassin and just fuelled rumors and unrest in Ul'dah.
- If we had gone fought it would have even further damaged the leadership structure of Ul'dah. Worse, Raubahn, if he took charge, would be viewed with suspicion since the little blood bath would have conveniently placed him in charge when the accused assassin was a good friend. Add to this only recently it had been revealed that his second in command was a Garlean spy and you would likely see the populous starting to look upon him as an usurper.
- A civil war in Ul'dah would be a disaster. We would be crippling the Alliances forces when we know a full blown Garlean invasion, supported by the emperor this time, was on the way. We would lack the forces to repel a garlean invasion of Ul'dah and that would leave Limsa and Gridania divided.
- Why would the populous of Ul'dah turn on the Monetarists? Our actions would have only make theirs look more justified. You don't impress people by ignoring the laws of those people.
- If we tried to take the city back with Ala Mhigan immigrants it would make even the skeptics believe that we did indeed try and stage a coup to put our 'guy' in power. Ul'dah citizens would see it as an Ala Mhigan plot to seize the city way from the people of Ul'dah. Even if we were successful the unrest and racial bigotry would cripple the city.
- We had no weapons in Ul'dah. It was taken from us when we visited the Sultana. This is actually mentioned in the DRK story quests.
- Your description of what happened sounds exactly like what happened to Ala Mhigo right before the Garleans walked into it and took over.

You are welcome
I can't, because he's essentially torturing generation after generation of people who where fed lies from infancy and living under a government that brutally kills anyone who digresses from their 'true belief'. (Seeing this typed out, it sounds awfully familiar...). Then again, I don't really like many of the Ishardians, either, since many we meet are utter jerks. Still, I feel with the lower classes and hope Aymeric will be able to acutally improve their lifes.Well, I've said so before, but I can still understand and sympathize with Nidhogg much more than with the Ishgardians. They just really have not impressed me, at all, except for those like Aymeric, Haurchefant and Edmont. There's a whole culture of hypocrisy and learned helplessness that is rather grating to me in that country.
Heh, absolutely.Compared with some other classes' really tedious last few quests, Rogue really had some interesting ones even when they were a bit difficult.
True. Still puts him above his countrymen in my eyes, especially genocidal maniacs like Nael. Though I have to admit I strangely felt with Nael at the end of T9 as well...Yeah but see, Gaius wants to minimize casualties pretty much only because he wants non-Garleans to rule over, and he essentially says as much in 1.0. So I rather have trouble seeing anything he does as being out of the goodness of his heart.
Absolutely!Well, specifics about Lahabrea and Elidibus have never been provided, and whether or not they keep Lahabrea dead, it would still be nice to know those things.
I agree that there's nothing wrong with discussing characters, but Gaius had nothing to do with 3.1 (hell, he's been dead since the end of 2.0) and Minfilia's been figuratively beat to death. There's already a (pretty popular) topic for that; why do we need to drag it over here?
Trpimir Ratyasch's Way Status (7.3 - End)
[ ]LOST [ ]NOT LOST [X]TRAUNT!
"There is no hope in stubbornly clinging to the past. It is our duty to face the future and march onward, not retreat inward." -Sovetsky Soyuz, Azur Lane: Snowrealm Peregrination
Cause it's a trigger in these discussions. It came up because Minfilia was the one character missing from the scions in 3.1.
On the actual topic of 3.1, I have two things this patch made me feel is very likely.
Firstly, I think the conflict with Nidhogg will at some point reach its climax at Silvertear lake. They said that we will find out what is under it and Nidhogg is clearly changing his game plan. I suspect also that the Garleans will come in as a major player in the final part of this expansion cycle and if Silvertear lake does hold something important I can see them making a stab for it too.
Secondly, I feel all but certain we will be going to Ala Mhigo next expac. Ive just finished levelling all the Jobs and one thing I noticed in all of them was what seemed to be a training and development of the military assets of Eorzea. Either new advanced fighting techniques became available to the city states, old orders were renewed or restricted disciplines showed the first signs of becoming more active and accepted. Now we see our allies working actively with the Ala Mhigans against Garlamald and we know Garlamald is on the move. Finally they have been mentioning a feature where you train your own unit from your GC. All these things give me the feeling that next expac we will see a open war conflict type expac against Garlamald with the clash of military between the Garlean war machine and the Alliance's forces.
Agreed - at this point I think it's pretty much guaranteed. And it'll be grand, taking back the city and seeing everything around it. Also, as a longtime DRG, it'll be interesting to meet these "proud lancer legions of Ala Mhigo" that inspired Gridanian spearmanship according to the old 2.0 class descriptions.
I have my doubts we'd be taking back Ala Mhigo, I still think it's too obvious. If they aren't going to be very ambitious with the plot then yeah, we'll just take back Ala Mhigo but it would be interesting if they have something else in store.
