Or leave it alone and encourage people to make friends and play with them? You're right, there are a few good reasons for abandoning your duty, but getting placed in a less popular or rewarding dungeon is not one of them. If you ask the DF to randomly select an instance for you knowing you'll get a scaled reward and bonus, you should take what you get, whether it's Aurum Vale or Ifrit normal.
Perhaps, rather than an increased time penalty for abandoning a roulette, you should lose your roulette reward for the day.
Because you know its an MMORPG and not a call of duty matchmaking game.
To be clear, I'm not advocating changing the system. I'm suggested to those that do that a time-based penalty would not have an increased positive effect. Especially considering that people in this thread alone have already suggested treating the lockout more like a cooldown than a penalty.
And if we're talking about the duty finder (and more specifically roulettes), suggesting that people make friends and go about their play that way is not rightly the point. Sure, a player should make friends in the game, but you are unfairly blaming the ones that queue solo for this specific outcome. Notwithstanding the fact the some of the roulettes require you to be solo.
