There are already moogles in FFXIV and they look like the original moogle design.

I really doubt they would make ANY beastmen race ever playable because they're much harder to work with when it comes to gear with their non-human proportions. And with how FFXIV's story goes, that the beastmen are pretty much not in friendly terms with the playable races, makes a good reason for them to not be playable at all, just like in FFXI.

If FFXI didn't have playable beastmen then don't expect it also in FFXIV.

I realize there are Moogles in the game, doesn't mean they couldn't still take inspiration from them (or specifically, Ivalice's Mogs) for another race.

...and I keep hearing people say they doubt a beastman race would ever be playable but I think you're looking at it from the wrong perspective. The ONLY new race that would be WORTH implementing IS a beastman race. Any human-ish type can already be emulated with what the game has.
