But Japan loves limited edition things. I'm pretty sure there'd be even MORE of them in this game if it weren't for the large western population it's pulled in.
(In fact I'm about 99% sure my favourite soda ever, 桃ファンタ, was a limited time special seasonal flavor and I only got lucky enough to try it when over there due to the stars aligning. I've been asking my friend for YEARS to send me more but he only just found one bottle this last fall.)

There's very much a "if you weren't here for it then too bad" vibe.

I don't there's anything necessarily positive about limited items, especially when they're digital and in a multiplayer game. There are reasonable people around of course, but no one can deny the toxic attitude from both sites this situation creates, especially when it's something so sought after like a hairstyle from an iconic (how I loathe to call her iconic now) Final Fantasy character. It would be similar to them adding the Buster Sword but then taking it away, every Cloud wannabe Dark Knight that missed the would be absolutely outraged. Now, if SE really wanted an exclusive feel to items, add them to the Gold Saucer for absurd prices. 1 million MPG for the hairstyle, done and done. While MGP is now easier to obtain, it's still quite rare and that's quite obvious with the lack of Fenrir around.

I honestly find her clothes and hairstyle rather ugly, but what I would kill for is FFXIII themed Rogue weapons, but then again I would kill for a new Rogue weapon that isn't entirely ugly like the recent ones (still glamoured to Ravana's weapon ;-; ). I don't think anyone would care if they were modified or have a different name, similar to how WoW reimplemented old armour with "replica item name". I still think it's pretty amazing when I inspect someone and see the original, non-replica version but they actually took effort to obtain so it may be different here.

I like the events because I'm a FFXIII and Lightning fan. ^^ Obtaining more Light gear though, I'd like a longer repeat of the first two events for players who weren't able to participate in either. And I'd like a third/fourth new one to get Lightning's newest gear for Dark Knight. That new outfit of her's is Awesomesauce!

There are plenty of months in the year that have no "special events" occurring. It would be fun if they would just switch on a past event for random weekends. Dragon quest weekend, FFXIII weekend, FFXI weekend, etc. Put them on a rotating schedule, and add a new event occasionally. The current Rhapsody fates are pretty good, as were the dragon quest, Shantotto, and Lightning fates. I wouldn't mind doing them again if I was in the area leveling a character, and mixing up the fates in a zone (as long as it doesn't affect quests and relic farming) is always welcome.

And for anyone who wants NEW events... it doesn't have to be one or the other. All the old promotional events are already in the game. There is absolutely no reason they couldn't flip on the lightning event as soon as the Rhapsody event ends.
