I have my voices set to Japanese so I don't hear the English voices save for the trailers. Admittedly, this has instilled in me a desire to see Tataru thrown off a cliff with a concrete parachute, but the rest of the voices have been a pleasure to hear. The thing about the English voice actors is that it's a very small pool that can be crawn from. It's why you hear the actor who did Spike Speigel in... everything else and TV commercials. Voice acting isn't anywhere near as popular here as it is in Japan where they're practically movie stars in their own right. It's why we've had 4-5 different voice actors for Goku, 3-4 for Vegeta, in the domestic release of the Dragon Ball franchise. A regrettable truth that will haunt XIV till they stop voicing the cutscenes.

I think the reason why Japanese sounds better -- if I understood you correctly -- is precisely because you don't understand it. I noticed this myself when I was watching the Anime Bleach back when it was new and had not yet been dubbed in English. By episode 5 or 10, my subconsciousness started playing the characters' lines back to me in English. I was hearing Japanese, but I was reading English, and my imagination took over. By episode 20+ my subconsciousness grew louder; the characters were practically speaking English, even though I still heard Japanese. It wasn't the Japanese voice overs as much as it was my imagination that made the Japanese sound so good.

Your imagination is limitless. You can make the characters you hear as intense or shallow as you want.

I love Steve Blum (Spike), but he's definitely over used.. especially in TOR, lol. He's everywhere in that game. BioWare handles the english voice acting game a lot better than SE does though.

I don't know why you're talking about them having "fake" British accents. Most of (if not all of) the voice actors doing a British accent ARE British and are doing their natural accent. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's fake. Not to mention that there are different dialects within each of the countries that comprise Great Britain. Northern English accents are different from Southern and within those are differentiations, etc. So what you consider a "real" English accent is probably just one particular dialect.

I have to say that the voice acting threw me off at first. They did take a lot of characters who previously didn't have a British accent and gave them one. But in the end I didn't mind it. I thought their performances were very good. I haven't started the 3.1 story yet, so I may change my mind, but I quite enjoyed the voice acting in 3.0.

Being someone from the United Kingdom, your comment confuses me...these are proper British accents that I recognise and everyone sounds so much better than they did at launch.
Don't get me wrong, the people from 2.0 did improve on the lead up to Heavensward, but the Heavensward ones are so, so much better than the previous group. The timing of the conversations and such are much better directed as well.

I'd assume this is because I'm British though, so it all very natural to me and I don't have the false idea of what Brits are supposed to sound like. When I've seen people on these forums referring to Raubahn as an Irish accent...yeah...haha. Anyhow, I enjoy them, so there we go. This is one of the few threads I've responded to, just because it made me laugh an incredulous laugh with your second sentence.

Some of the voices are better now (Alphinaud), some of them are worse (poor Merlwyb ;; ). It's a mixed bag.

Yeah, Merlwyb, like Lahabrea, was another one of those that really shouldn't have been changed. That was one of the biggest crimes of the expansion.
