Uh, no. The point if this thread was fear mongering about a misinterpretation of a statement by Yoshida. The only fair and ethical thing to do is shut it down at every turn.I find it funny that some people have difficulty answering a simple question. Nowhere in the OP does it say that this IS the system they are going with.
The purpose of the thread is obviously just to gauge the community's thoughts on the subject. It's a "what if" scenario, aiding the devs by hopefully preventing a mistake before it happens. In this case, it's showing the dev team what NOT to do, considering the votes.

According to what? A "poll" you set up on the internet? Your attempt to find out what the population of this game thinks about a notion you have MADE UP based on ZERO facts is almost as pathetic as you attempt to control peoples responses.Just want to point out a few things.
1.
The fact that people actually tried to personally attack me over a topic asking people to -only- post an opinion really says something about those people.
2. at the moment about 5 times as many people would hate the system rather than love it
So please if you want to debate the issue or personally attack -anyone- go make another thread
If you don't like the topic DON'T POST.
You're misinterpreting the OP just like you claim Azurymber misinterpreted Yoshi's post. Hypocrite much? How would you feel about "end-game" gear being replaced every 3 months or so via new raid/s or other end-game activities?
^ Nothing there says it's definite.
My Feelings:
I feel that IF gear were to become outdated so quickly FFXIV would have to drastically increase the quality of end game content to become competitive. At the moment I strongly feel that FFXIV's raids, while great, can not compare to the raids of other games (due to lacking interactiveness, voice acting, and deeper stories). IF end game content became based on the current quick-spawn HNM system and the current style of raids, I feel like people would only come back for a week after each patch, eventually find another game that involves them more and that they feel like they can "invest time" into, and leave FFXIV completely.

I don't really see how there can be a deeper intention to this question though. It's a simple yes or no, basically asking if you would support a system like this.
I highly doubt the deeper intention was to cause a flame war, but it seems that's all it did lol. Oh well, I just took it with a grain of salt, and said how I feel about it.
The OP is only asking a question.... Nowhere its said it comes from Yoshi's post. Maybe it is an idea based on Yoshi's post but no one said this is going to happen...
Seriously I don't see what's the problem about asking a simple question...
I also find insulting that you seems to think that everyone who posted their opinion about the OP are all idiot enough to look at the OP and say to their friends "OMG Theyre going to make new gears useless every 3 month"
We all know it is only a little tiny "maybe"
I think it is lame when everyone has the newest gear in a week or two. Not really an accomplishment. Make it so hard some people will never get it. That is what I want.
You are correct.I just have to point out the flaw in this argument.
Endgame gear in XI was almost never anywhere near the same "Stats" and due to the macro swaping nature of the game you could have situational gear to switch on/off. Wether it was dynamis/limbus/sea/HNM all of them took a extremly long time investment so you couldn't really focus on all areas and had to focus on one to get anything in the end.
FFXI and FFXIV couldn't be any more different in terms of how armour is balanced and obtained.
XI: Hard to get anything good, situational stats for macro swaps gave developers alot of lee-way to make crazy types of gear.
XIV: Easy to get anything good, situational stats can't be macrod so all armour needs to be "Good" less variable stats to play with.
But the point i was trying to get across was that no one "body" piece was significantly superior to another. Each had it's own strengths, each highly situational. Rarely you would come by a piece of gear from an "end game" event that was outclassed by another piece coming from an alternate "end game" event.
In FFXIV all your R50 swords have similar attributes on them. When patch 1.19 rolls around and I get a R50 rare/ex sword i'll go as far as saying those stats will be higher due to the nature of rare/ex making that sword special.
example:
normal R50 sword ~150 att?
maybe my rare/ex is ~160 att.
now when 1.20 is pushed to the servers and a new R50 rare/ex sword is introduced it's not going to have ~170 att. making all previous R50 swords obsolete. The new rare/ex will be somewhere between 150 and 160 att. Balanced within the R50 sword category, but will be unique in it's own way.
same goes for armor, you're not going to have rare/ex Plate with 140def to only 3 months later be outclasses with a new rare/ex with 160def, then 3 months after have to get Plate that has the 170 def. and so on and so on. THATS NOT GONNA HAPPEN!
We aren't going to have tiered gear.
The only time we'll have significantly more powerful gear is if
1) level cap increase
2) takes a very long time to obtain
3) reward for completing milestones in game. i.e. Defeating the {Mega Boss}
