Why not edit your original post to include what Yoshi P said (paraphrased) ~ Every three months they will have unique and exclusive gear available for the hardcore players while relaxing the difficulty of obtaining last updates unique and exclusive gear for the more casual players.

GOD! Your gear that you invested all your time in won't become yesterdays news!

end game /cap gear will be balanced within themselves.

that means that awesome sword you got from what ever boss drop, will be balanced with other rare/ex swords of similar level.
Your not gonna get a R50 weapon from a raid in 1.19 and it to be completely outclassed with another R50 weapon in patch 1.20 Those two weapons will be so similar in function that it won't really matter which you use. The latter will just be more prestigious than the former because it's new and more difficult to obtain.
