Just because it'll be outclassed, doesn't mean it's not worth getting if for nothing else than the experience. We're playing this game to enjoy the game itself, not just to have the best gear that could ever exist. So don't be sad, just see it as the promise that you will be getting even more game time in in the future when it comes time to upgrade..... (:
I'm fully aware of what horizontal progression is. This game however doesn't have it. I don't know exactly why I would be referring to another game when I make a simple comment about gear on the forums to this game. However, if you look at the way they're handling Relics, they are in fact making sure that your hard work and effort on them will continue to matter for far longer than other gear. All the people who have a completed 2.xx Relic will get to use it to skip the first stage of the 3.15 Relic, thus "upgrading" it to make it relevant again. Yoshi P has said that Relic weapons will always be compatible to the highest end weapons, so the trend will continue with each iteration. It just may take a few months for them to implement it from time to time.....Gamer3427 feel free to look up how FF11 was built up and how other horizontal progressions MMORPGs work
In FF11 the relic you had continued to upgrade wich means for example the Excalibur sword could go all the way to 99. Same Sword could continue to evolve and develope with you wich makes things more personal and fun and not making it feel like whatever effort you put into this item made it useless due to the next one. I should not be comparing games because FF11 and FF14 are two different games but it wouldn't have hurt SE to continue the same path on the relic
