3.1 is actually smaller than any of the 2.x series patches, so extra time did not increase the amount of content. It could still be great, don't get me wrong, but you're assuming a lot.

They also didn't say "3.1 will take an extra month because we are jam-packing it with more content than ever before." If they had said that, and 3.1 was indeed massive (at least on the level of 2.1), this might be a different discussion. Neither things are true however. They went on vacation.

They never released a road map. Saying Patch will happened ON THIS DATE. So nothing has been late.

I would think FFXI has been down to 1/5 of it's normal team for a while. So SE will put them where ever they are needed.

Right after the expansion, Yoshida said in an interview that patches and expansions will be released at faster rate compared to 2.x so basically he actually stated the timeline for patches already.

As for FFXI developers, FFXIV already has several former core developers from FFXI and thus it is more likely they will be transferred to FFXIV than Dragon Quest. Personally, I prefer that they start a new project with Tanaka and make a new online game. I think Yoshida is too rigid on his vision for FFXIV to allow it prosper for raiding or more involving gameplay since he made it clear several times that his targets are casual players and those who never played online games before. I believe FFXI developers can make a very unique online game as FFXI was with better resources and powerful engine.

It's funny that all this complaining about content updates is in a thread about XI.

XI was *very* slow with content updates, and then they charged 10 bucks for things like ACP which gave proportionately less content than one of these patches. Loved the game, but man, XIV's content updates are like night and day comparatively.

People are more accustomed to faster gratification once it's already been established as a norm. ANY hindrance to this results in angst and despair. If, for example, their content release dates were more like XI or WoW, people wouldn't care as much that something took 5 months to release. Of course, this is also overlooking the fact that there probably wouldn't be as many people as we see, but I somehow doubt that's that much of a concern for SE. I get the feeling that they're still trying to keep in the mindset of catering to less than 100k players at any point in the future. It would explain a lot, honestly.

In fairness, XI's content lasted much longer than XIV's. Slower patch schedules were more easily forgiven.

This. XI's content stayed relevant too. Once the next set of content comes out in XIV, there's no incentive to do the old stuff unless it pops up in a roulette or something. What makes the 3.1 delay especially bad is that the expansion made more content irrelevant than a normal patch would.

No one cared much because you were busy taking years getting 1 peice of gear.
