I don't know about you but it's quite hard to help people when you're:
1)Hospitalized for X days/months
2)In vacation and cannot log in (plus why do you want to log in? you're in vacation...)
3)Have no connection because "Insert problem"
4)Having other IRL things to do such as "Insert long term duties such as military etc"
5)Lack of Money

I just love the people who constantly blame us house owners "because we don't deserve to use it if we take a break" . SORRY, stuff happens: someone could get a car accident all of the sudden and remain paralyzed unable to play. Is it his/her fault for that?

How about starting pointing the finger to the proper culprit instead? I possess a house, I love decorating it but I completely support the OP: one of the greatest achievement for the game is not just a temporary thing if you leave the game, because "SORRY you don't deserve to use it if you're gone for too long. Yes even if you're unconscious, because you definitely didn't want it". I was so happy to grab mine because I know I would use it when I needed and if I left for a brief time, it would still be there.

But not anymore of course.

The main issue in my opinion is that it's not that it's a bad investment, it's that Square Enix doesn't invest enough to keep it up as it should be: Right now what do you have in terms of endgame? Just one raid and 2 expert dungeons (let's even ignore the pvp please). But people keep playing as far as I'm concerned: it's Final Fantasy and they definitely notice that even if content is lacking, lots and lots of people will play because "Final Fantasy". We've been starving for content for 5 months but they could've added, I don't know, a little more than 2 expert dungeons and perhaps the relic that so many are looking for.

But it won't matter: people still play it. And now if we want to keep our houses, we are forced to play it.

Definitely not a good way to come back after a good break heh.
