When the tanks weren't messing up (which happened on pretty much every run) and getting OHKO through over/ undercharging then subsequently killing everyone else, I had:

    1) DPS sprinting around taking all the lightning orbs
    2) Party members trying to murder other players caught in lightning circles by standing on top of them with theirs (stop following me!)
    3) Party members trying to murder other players by completely ignoring Chaos (the amount of times they had a struck player in their lightning circle, only to run away?!)
    4) DPS taking leisurely baths in the pool of water when Ramuh casts thunderstorm

Eventually, I lucked out and found a great party. The tank swapping went smoothly, everyone watched out for Chaos, the DPS knew where to stand and what to do...

only to end up voting abandon because the combined damage output of FOUR LEVEL 60 DPS couldn't kill the adds in time.
That sucks, but did you try to remedy the situations by informing them of these things and what to avoid? Just because it's EX doesn't mean they know what they're doing. It's not hard to level. Even if it's not their first time running it, they may have forgotten what needs to be done or they may have simply been pulled through by other competent players and never learned the "right" way to get through the run. Knowledge is power! :P

And unfortunately, some people are a bit touchy when advice is given because of a knee jerk reaction that they are being looked down on. My gf and I played together yesterday and in 2 of the DF's she got angry.
    1. Against Ifrit because the healer blamed her for the 1st wipe (we took out the nail, but hellfire still did a wipe...). Stated it was because she didn't pull her summon to hit the nail (which should be done honestly, but I know for a fact we destroyed the nail prior to his hellfire). She was angry about being blamed for the wipe, but did actually take the advice to micro her summon more.
    2. Healer on hero on the halfshell told us all to stop attacking turtle and pull back (but we all knew and were obviously already pulling it to the destination). This one was definitely more of a knee jerk reaction as I'm sure it wasn't intended to be demanding or condescending.

But the point being, not only is it helpful to give advice to improve a run, but how you go about it is also quite important. Writing things in short and abrupt sentences with commands during combat come off as demanding. If you wipe, take the time before starting again to discuss a game plan so you don't just go in and make the same mistakes again. I've noticed doing this before starting can often change the entire mood of the party and the group dynamic as a whole

Well, most of times, regardless of how much you want to help, when you ask "Does anyone need a few pointers ?" or "Has everybody read the strat / read a guide ? "
The only answer you get is silence.

Maybe because of language issues, the fear of being kicked, the fear of being blamed for a wipe, or for the love of "going blind", I can't tell.

Sometimes though, after a first wipe on mechanics, a smart guy will ask "anyone care to explain why we wiped". Sure bro...

Well, in this case, I just meant when you see obvious flaws that caused the wipe. Don't try to tell them during the fight because that'll only hinder you from doing the best you can. But if you wipe, take note and kindly inform them of what they can do to improve. Like saying "Hey ____, I noticed we kept getting hit by each others lightning circles. Try to keep a bit further from other players during the fight so we don't get double damage" or "Hey, as a heads up, if you are standing in water when thunderstorm is cast, it hurts more."

Cause based on the description of the poster, it really seems like the players simply had no clue what they were doing and what to avoid.

Most of the time if this question pop... I just sigh and carefuly list EVERY error i saw including mine if I did...

Last time i did was on a Turn 9 of Bahamut
Because yes... We might have lv60 character... But if people doesn't have a clue of the strat it's a wipe...
Not doing the mechanics is deadly lv60 or not... (Unlike T6, T7 and T8 where you just burn the boss)

Most epic move... The whm use fluid aura to push the red golem in the blue one, while the blue attract the green one who was not far enough...
I just... Fliptable and went to yell some ugly word in my pillow

Sometimes the "stop and discuss" doesn't work. And this was Ifrit normal I was tanking at the time. When starting, I just say "kill the nail" as I often say, regardless of the circumstances. Even for those who know, it comes as a sort of joke. Wipe, because lancer didn't hit nail at all. Ok, me and mage both tell in more complete sentence "please kill the nail when it appears". Wipe, the lancer failed to regard it at all. I start giving a bit more throu out explanation calling the lancer out by name, the lancer pulls. At that point I just tell the healer and mage to make sure they stay on the sides because I -will- turn iffy to go kill the nail myself.

If you say 'pls' because it's shorter than 'please', I say 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'.

Honestly, this is the most common cause of wiping next to tank derps. Even after saying "don't overlap lightning circles!" a hundred times, they still run in my direction when it hits. I'm a healer, I'm squishy enough as it is without your kamikazeing!

I always give/ gave advice, it's just very rare to come across players who a) actually take it in and b) use it effectively (and as someone else mentioned, sometimes there's the language barrier.) Most of the time it's just ignored, or taken to the extreme - e.g. players who kept running away from Chaos'd party members going the other way and crowding around targets, usually resulting in a KO for both players, etc. And then on the rare occasions it actually goes in, we end up failing because of the tanks. orz

Well today I'm the reason for my own horror stories(about 4 of them) has discouraged me a bit with running the vault as healer for the first time, despite knowing the last boss like a book.

The most painful to me was when mobs did some lucky crits on the tank, JUST AFTER I switched to cleric stance, and she dropped low really quick..so I had to prey those heals would hold her over til I was able to turn the damn thing off.

Nope, she didn't make it. I felt like shit for the rest of the run.

Don't beat yourself up about it, these things just happen sometimes. If I tortured myself over every time someone KO'd because I accidentally hit CS too soon/ late, I'd never be able to play the game. I wiped a whole party once because I'd gone from NM to HM and didn't realise CSing was a no no for this group. Then one time as a tank, I was put with a healer who liked to play "how low can you go" with my HP and I must have wiped about five times. You shouldn't let a few honest mistakes bother you.

Actually, I met a healer like that in Neverfractal(harhar) yesterday. Me and the SMN were riding 10% HP for that last 5% of the boss HP. And I have had a healer in dread gear let me die to an easy pull because all she wanted to do was dps and figured my undergear non-synced ass could Bloodbath/IB my way to survival. Oh I do take solace that as healer my groups don't have to put up with those kinds.

I was reading your posts about The Vault and it made me remember my first time there. I had seen a video and all, but something wasn't right, we wiped 3 times on last boss before clearing, that chain thing killing someone every now and then, it was a shame. I remember the tank saying "That's sad" on the party chat after the second wipe. I stopped playing for 3 days after that and only returned because my friend asked me to, and yet I felt like s**t. I don't think I'm a good healer (to be honest I think I'm an average to mediocre healer), but I don't let my tanks die or my party wipe this easily, I can count on my fingers the times we wiped because I did something wrong on my job... I still hate that place nowadays though I don't have problems anymore on any boss there.
