Gil often is not much the trouble, the trouble is the lost of all the rare/expensive items that are lost on removal. Those stuff only worth often 3 or 4 times the whole plot price, and all the trouble we had get through to get them. That effort is lost and at least for me would be just enough cause to left the game forever.

45 days is too short time for that painfull and big loose specially because im subscribe in periods of 90 days. If i were subscribed by 30 days it would be fair.

If there were just the plot land lost but you keep ALL the items (gil of the land doesnt matter) it werent troublesome and i would suggest 7 or 15 days time, as it would be matter of just get another plot.

this right here, especially after Yoshi stated there would be more than enough housing, everyone would get a small, and it would be affordable (think i saw him quoted saying it would be 850k)

i own a medium house that costed 18m and all my furniture i farmed and crafted myself, so i didnt really consider costs of items, but i do agree there should be some way to guarantee that the items go back to you if you still have a sub or cant loose a house while you have a sub

And your entire argument fell apart. You can't honestly say you don't have 2 mins to log into your house and logout in the span of 45 days. If your life is so crazy then how do you even play the game?

    Should be:

Foreclosure after 45 day period if no use, upon a non-renewal or cancellation of said subscription.

Goal is to make use of a limited allotment rather than to penalize a player. IMO, a player should at least entitled to its rewards and things, while that subscriber is still paying, even if that player is not playing.

Upon renewal, the period is reset to 45.

Actually, its far too long, 45 days is stupid long. 21 days would be far more reasonable

Congratulations people who pushed this through, you didn't do the math and think about what was actually going to happen.
    Amen.

Lately I've had very little motivation to play. Why would I bother spending my free time with FFXIV if such major achievement as our FC house could be taken away just because we didn't / couldn't pay subscription for a while. The upcoming system is very unrespectful towards paying customers who have invested a lot of time, effort and money to obtain housing. Dissatisfactory customer service and disrespect towards players' investments is not a good business move.

By the way.. will the timer take server downtimes and other technical difficulties on Square Enix's part into account? I predict players losing their houses when they are unable to log in during the decay timer countdown due to problems on SE's end.

Wow... Your actually worried about your FC not being able to muster a single player to log on and enter your house in 45 days? And if you aren't paying for a sub anymore, guess what? You are not a paying customer. Everyone else has been complaining only about personal housing...

People take breaks. Typical MMO hiatus lengths are 1-3 months long, from my observation. That doesn't mean they've quit the game and will never return. They're just taking a break. They deserve to keep all the progress they've had, not come back to find their house pulled and stripped and not even getting back all of their decor.

Chiming in with agreement with the OP. The decay timer is a terrible idea on its own, but 45 days is an awful timer. It needs to be longer.

I'm on break right now, but I still found five minutes tonight to check my Gold Saucer lottery ticket before I started to catch up on my DVR.
