Not just unrealistic, it has been officially debunked by the development team ages ago, stating that Hydaelyn and Vana'diel are completely different, separate worlds (it was stated in the translation of a past 'Letter From the Producer LIVE' video that was previously posted here, but has since disappeared, but I saved Bayohne's post for posterity):

A55: To be absolutely clear, there is no connection between FFXIV’s Hydaelyn and FFXII’s Ivalice. Likewise there is no connection with FFXI’s Vana’diel. Each are their own individual world. Based on this, there are connections between the things that appear in the world, and we’ll be revealing more in the future.

Really, I'd much rather SE add completely new areas in the game than simply rehash previous places anyway, there is only so much 'fanservice' areas you can stomach.

Let us visit Vana d'iel and play through those zones. I don't even care if they're straight copy-pasted, that would be just. Such a blast of Nostalgia. Wouldn't even mind seeing it being some kinda paralell dimension/ascian thing, either. I'd -love- to see the Warrior of Light misplaced onto another Final Fantasy game.

Uh, this will never happen for the reasons I mentioned above. If you want to play in Vana'diel, play FFXI - this idea is like playing FFVII and demanding you have Squall appear in it 'just because' for instance. Player characters do not crossover between different FF worlds in the main series, period. Leave that for spin offs like Dissidia.

Judging from how all the "Free Ala Mihgo" fanatic NPCs have been behaving, and add to the fact that the bandits near Little Ala Mihgo used to be the old guard of the previous regime in Ala Mihgo, I am of the line of thought that the people currently living there likely prefer GARLEAN rule as opposed to what they had before, at the very least under Gaius, whom I'm still holding onto hope that he survived and will start an outright civil war with Garlemald.

Except this theory completely falls apart when you actually read the stories of those who have successfully escaped from Ala Mhigo after the fall - they basically state that the Empire has been effectively using the population as either a source of soldiers for their military who are drafted into the Garlean Army against their will (and actually involves brainwashing children no less), or slave labour. As Gaius sealed the city off from the outside world by a huge wall, information about what exactly was going inside Ala Mhigo was difficult to determine, until the Ala Mhigan Resistance was formed and set up an 'underground railroad' to assist Ala Mhigans fleeing the city into Eorzea proper - accordingly these fortunates told of atrocities being committed by Imperial troops on civilians behind the wall, which only resolved the Resistance's stance to free the city from the Empire.

However, the Resistance was mostly wiped out wholesale by Gaius himself, so if the underground railroad is still operating, it's unclear. Either way, it's stated time and again in both version 1.0 and ARR that life in Ala Mhigo under the Garlean jackboot is not a happy state of affairs. Specifically, here is some quotes from both 1.0 and ARR Ala Mhigan npcs on the subject: (more coming)

Hardened Rebel Warrior: "I was born in Ala Mhigo after the fall, so until now, I knew naught but the scarred city's walls."
Hardened Rebel Warrior: "This is the Eorzea that my mother and father walked upon when they were young, this is the boundless sky they gazed up at, faces aglow with the warm light of freedom. I will see to it that they walk here again, even if it means giving my life."
Strapping Resistance Member: "The road leading south from Ala Mhigo is the road to freedom, barred to us by the Empire. We dream of one day reopening that road to all, and would gladly pay any price to make that dream a reality."
Brutish Resistance Member: "The Empire is using Ala Mhigo as a breeding ground for new soldiers. Once children reach a certain age, they are taken from their parents and sent into the north for training... never to be seen or heard from again."
Dispassionate Resistance Member: "Many lives were lost ensuring that those of us you see here could make it beyond the Wall. My brother was killed, as was someone dear to your Path Companion. And while my heart wells with sorrow, so too does it well with pride, knowing that they died for a greater good."
Dispassionate Resistance Member: "Which makes the success of this mission so important. Since our escape, the Empire has increased the number of guards who patrol the city-state, and were we to fail, this might very well be the last party to ever make the journey south from Ala Mhigo."
Ala Mhigan Resistance Captain: "For every man and woman you see here standing before you, there are a thousand more who remain trapped in Ala Mhigo, suffering under the weight of the Empire's rule."
Ala Mhigan Resistance Captain: "Since the day the Wall was built, there has only been but one way out of the city-a single road that stretches north into the Garlemald wastes. Unless something is done, a whole generation of children will grow up never knowing Eorzea. Never knowing freedom."

Minfilia: "Since the Imperial occupation of Ala Mhigo began, little information has escaped the city-state. No one has truly known what was going on behind those walls, beyond rumours and speculation."

Glaumunt: "We were pickin' our way around a gorge not far outside the walls when they caught up with us... An' rather than allow themselves to be taken again, my mother an' sister leaped over the edge before my very eyes. Heartbroken as I was, I didn't put up a fight when the Imperials clapped me in chains an' dragged me back."
Glaumunt: "'Twas some years after that I escaped again, an' that time, I got away. I swore then that I'd get revenge on the Empire, an' become an adventurer so as to hone my skills an' earn the coin I needed. But nigh on two decades've since gone by, an' what've I achieved? Bugger all! That's what!"

So yeah, to those thinking that life under the Empire's rule in Ala Mhigo is some kind of paradise, tell that to these people who actually knew what it is really like.

Though that apparently couldn't have happened since crossovers never happen in the FF main series. I suppose that means Lightning was never in this game either, for that matter.

Rereading my post again, I did come across as somewhat harsh, which wasn't my goal, so I am really sorry for that Alahra. As for Lightning's crossover, that was a short term event of another FF game's character appearing in Eorzea temporarily (which was explained away that Lightning had been sent there by Bhunivelze to 'hone her skills'), that doesn't then mean we are automatically able to visit another world in turn. There is after all, far more on Hydaelyn still to explore - let us explore and experience everything this world has to offer first!

I'd like Xelphatol, Paglthan and the Sahagin underwater world. Well basically all the closed beast tribe homelands really.
Why you ask? So we can gain the complete trust of the beast tribes so they will help the Eorzean Alliance in the war against the Garleans and Ascians.
Then they would have no more need to summon their primals eh?

My first post was honestly largely just for fun. Though like it or not, future content crossovers are possible. We've already had an entire raid series pulled from FFIII and re-imagined (including characters lifted directly from it), and in the lead up to Realm Reborn, they mentioned the idea of enshrining other FF titles in the same way. (I'm banking on something from FFV or FFVI being the next major one in terms of content, if they do something like that again). FFXI just happens to have my favorite FF setting, and if I were to be honest, something in FFXIV's worldbuilding is lacking for me, as I don't actually have much desire to explore Hydaelyn (though that's also perhaps an issue of gameplay, since exploration as an actual activity is essentially nonexistent when compared to its predecessor).
