They'll add whatever race they think fit the narrative. Au`Ra took some serious growing pain so I suspect the next race is going to be just as hard to implement properly. It's hard to speculate on anything now since we have absolutely no hints of anything new, but given how SE actually does give a damn about the story and lore of FF14, popular demand can't really become a factor into this decision.
This please. I'd love to make a mature, beautiful, fighting woman. Not as built as a Roe, but not as teen as Cat/AuRa (Though keeping the elegance of AuRa: Their default pose is very nice and polished). The thing about the cat girls being similar is all well and good but it'd be really nice to have a female character that was less teenager and more woman. Mysoginistic notions aside all of the races atm with the exception of highlander and rho (both of which I can't stand sorry) are basically slightly different teenage or younger girls.viera females are traditionally more adult looking.

The big difference in "different" humanoid race is silhouettes and what you get when you try to make that race as human looking as possible. Elezen and Roegadyn (Particularly Roegadyn Men) don't look anywhere near human, to get to human for them you have to cut off so much thickness and height. They're humanoid, but they're not necessarily "Human + x and y feature". With the Miqo'te and Au Ra (Specifically the girl ones due to how their "beast" traits are already minimized), the biggest differences between them and human are a very minor difference in height and some small animal like traits like the tail and ears. It's much easier to ignore traits like the weird ears/horns and tail especially when they feel slapped on.
I'm a giant dragon and heretic sympathizer and I love character customization
See my thread about equalizing the heights for men and women of each race! http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/253435-A-suggestion-regarding-height.
Being human is a huge problem in Final Fantasy.
I'd like a Viera race too, or Viangaa since its a beast like race that we don't have yet. Though I hope if it ever gets implemented that they would make them look a little different than basic Hyurs/Elezens re-textured with tiny differences and limitations. Its just over-used and flat out bland at this point. Au Ra's for example. :/
For all the complaining people do love Au ras. The same will happen with viera. It would be a huge mistake for them to miss the opportunity that's there already. Want to add another bullet point about why viera is perfect for FFXIV? They're masters of all weapons...isn't that what defines FFXIV? Armory system where mastering all classes is a goal? For those that want creatures with no human traits and that are completely beast tribe based I just don't see any way anything that doesn't look human could make any sense in the story. It's not my argument, it's the argument FFXIV states. Beast tribes are not one to live with the other races. I'm hoping they hint at the next race at some point like they did with Yugiri. They would make eorzea amazing. They don't like empires (Archadia is just like Garleans) and they're the only race that would naturally adapt to Eorzea and all its jobs since they're masters of all weapons. For them starting ARR has very strong reasons.

But even as is every race is represented with every weapon thus far. There might not be a Miqo'te Dragoon, but there are plenty of Miqo'te lancers. There are some connections, but these are just as much a matter of the racial composition around the guild that trains the weapon type (Hyur and primarily Miqo'te and Elezen for the Archers' and Lancers' Guilds) as racial attachments to the weapons (the Archers' Guild being the closest to an exception). For all the complaining people do love Au ras. Additionally, we have yet to encounter a race on Eorzea that likes or is even okay with the Empire (except where large sums of gold purchase that 'opinion'). Their being something of a potential beast tribe though, that seems pretty cool, especially if they're less solely territorial in their interests. A nomadic beast tribe acting in relative cohesion (though likely with various interests between its few-several leaders) would be awesome.
I'm claiming to be a fan of you as you speak so much truth (plus you appear to be a bunny person ^^) *AHEM* I'd really love it if Viera were made to be a playable race too. I love bunnies in reality, have 7 of the little devils. >However this thread is about Viera's and most peoples arguments make no sense for not wanting them in game.
The whole argument that Viera's are Miqo'te with bunny ears is ridiculous. So what? Elezen are Hyurs with pointy ears and slightly bulky body size, and Au Ra's are also Hyur's with tails, horns and scales. For me these are totall different races, and so is Viera, and I don't mind any of them.![]()
If SE made FFXIV Viera's more rabbit like than human like then I think that'd be better than what they were like for FFXII and the conceptual plans. For example give them more of a hunch and perhaps make them hairier oh and for the ears let us play as lops. XD
