What some are asking for aren't races, they're monsters/aka beast tribes.

They added a Viera-like race in 1.0. It's called miq'ote. Enjoy.
Eh, a lot of western games have "cute" races as well, they just tend to go for more realistic approaches which makes them look less "cute". Like WoW and the Gnomes and Panderan, both are definitely "cute" races. Tons of games have tough races, beast-like, normal, et cetera races, though I think the more realistic (as opposed to stylized) aesthetic of Western games leads to less cutesy races.
Of course more races would attract a broader audience, I don't disagree there, but the 3rd addition of demi-beastman races that would likely have tough men and fairly cutesy women that look akin to the Viera probably wouldn't attract anyone new (Besides I suppose die-hard FF12 fans and people who like bunny people but not demony people or cat people), more just give those people who like that sorta race another option to choose from when making a new character/messing around in the CC/using a fantasia. Something very unique and not in the game currently would broaden the audience though.
The thing is I know SE can make good races, heck I love the more tougher looking beastman races in FFXIV, I wouldn't mind something akin to that. And I also like the races, but I wish more work was put into them so the guys and girls didn't look so dimorphic, like even the big race's women are still half the size of the men of their race. I guess what I'm just asking for is I'd love a race like the the Lalafell, in that they're fairly similar between the guys and girls in terms of facial and body structure, but on the opposite end of that spectrum being fairly big and tough looking. Alternatively, I'd be way more apt with whatever they added if they just redid character customization so that I could have at least have the option to make a girl character look more tougher looking, e.g adding stuff like equalizing the heights, adding a genuinely "tough" face option instead of the annoyed looking faces, et cetera. Now.. If they did both, I think I would just start throwing money at the dev team.
I think most people agree that instead of having a completely new race.. just add the Viera option under the Hume/Kitten people. Make a hume/kitten and have options for type of ear.. or just add an option with the Sun/Moon tribe thingie. This way SE can actually focus on a new race that has 4 arms like Gilga or a Mermaid or even Moggles so I can make a Monte Blanc T_T.
I don't really believe Moogles would make sense, we already have them in Hydaelyn so it's not like they could just up and change them all of a sudden. The way they are now is certainly not fit for battle either.
If, that small Lalafell can fight, so can the moogle. The fF tactics ones fight, different type of races of moogles, as the pics can show. was just an opinion.
Exactly! If thats how they want to fob it off, well...Problem is if you want to simplify it, even the Au'ra aren't much different from Miqote(females anyway). The fundamentals for female Au'ra are nothing but Miqote with horns and a dragon tail instead. Even a friend of mine admitted she didn't really see anything that really defined Au'ra as 'dragon like'.
Roe: Burly Hume
Au Ra: Hume with Tails and Horns
Miqote: Hume with Cat ears and Tail
Elezen: Effeminate Hume with pointy ears....
There is little to no variety here save from aesthetic options *cough* Highlander eyebrows *cough*
If they really want something different then there is going to be one hell of a job with armor clipping.
IMHO "different" equates to Amallja vs Sylph vs Ixal
There is nothing about them alike at all, unlike the player races.
A poor excuse if I ever saw one, either go full different or go home I say
The moogles were pretty useless in Heavensward, but who knows? I don't think the developers would be willing to refit armour on them though.

If the Viera are an option, I'd like the ability to have my ears tied into a pony tail ala Usagi Yojimbo
