    Monk's Heavensward abilities

    I know this ahs probably already been posted, but...why are the new monk skills so shitty ........I main a warrior since I started playing and there Heavensward abilities are so much better than monks. it wouldn't be so bad if Meditation wasn't on the shared GCD. I might be forgiving of this if Forbidden Chakra had more than a base potency of 320, like oh I don't know 500 ..the ability my warrior has that requires 5 stacks of Deliverance(which I might add I get stacks for just doing my threat rotation)

    Don't get me wrong Elixir Field is awesome.. far superior to Howling strike.

    forgive me for my rant but I was looking forward to monk in heavensward the chakras are in flavor but they went about it all wrong.

    Unless i'm completely wrong here and some far superior monk mains can tell me i'm way off...because I don't see it

    Monks new abilities are just fine... We are now the only melee with decent aoe and two of the new abilities are the reason for that. We are less likely to lose GL and can get it up faster (there is number 3). We can also dumb GL if we are going to lose it anyway because of mechanics (#4). The last can be used for extra burst or TP depending on what you want and also gives us something to do during downtime.

    But all monks HW abilities were literally flat upgrades that helped the class with its flaws while maintaining its identity what is there to complain about?

    A lot of monks had a similar knee-jerk reaction to those skills, but having played with them for a while I think I speak for most of us when I say we're happy with them.

    The only one people still aren't keen on is Tornado Kick because it's such a pain in the butt to time optimally in most cases. As for increasing Forbidden Chakra power, I disagree. For one, you can't compare flat potencies. ALL Monk skills have low potency relative to other jobs to compensate for the speed and frequency at which they hit - and Greased Lightning multipliers - and Twin Snakes. 320 is huge for a MNK. Furthermore, increasing its power - especially to 500 :P - could shift optimal rotations out of whack since the skill would become centralising. Having to press Meditation every other GCD would butcher MNK's fluid playstyle and make it annoyingly spammy with a disjointed rhythm.

    Well, I'll start off by saying I love the changes to monk and I think it's in a great place right now (especially after the buff), utility wise it is lacking compared to nin/dragoon but forgetting that. I can see why some others may have been left feeling a little left out.

    The reason why a lot of people feel disappointed with monks skills in heavensward is that a lot of the classes got skills that were complete game changers in terms of playstyle and added a LOT more depth to the rotation, blackmages got enoch, dragoons with BOTD, summoners got an overhall, bards (for better or worse) got to become bowcasters, and ninjas got a new combo with armor crush and the hate skills and some nice stuff.

    Monks on the other hand basically got a couple of quality of life adjustments, with another oGCD to throw into the rotation. Meditation can only be used during downtime which makes that skill situational as well as the TP recovery EXTREMELY situational and not as useful as I would have hoped, change form again is during downtime (but absolutely amazing in my opinion) and Tornado kick is when you're about to lose stacks.

    So while all of the above skills really help with the problems we had pre-expansion, people feel like no DEPTH/major changes were made to the monk rotation itself compared to the other classes. So that's why it feels lacking in the expansion. I would argue that we already had the additional buff of GL3 to manage, so that's why they didn't add more for monks, like they did for Dragoon (BOTD) and Blackmage (Enoch) and summoner (DT).

    I like how monk is, I loved how it was before and the new skills really just gave us a bunch of tools to really maximise our DPS (as well as making us viable for AOE). So I'm happy with it, but I can see why some people might feel that we got shafted a little.

    Personally I feel that meditation should have been something you gain a stack of every time you use snap punch, or even demolish (as it's used less in the rotation), (as well as having the current skill take a GCD if you wanted to charge it faster) so that it would slowly build and allow you to use it a few more times during a fight, the potency would probably need lowering to bring the DPS back in line with other classes, but it would have at least given us something else to keep an eye on and manage during a fight and would have made the TP recovery a little more usefull.

    The only thing I truly dislike enough to care about with 3.0 MNK: Chakra stacking. Macros are too slow, and mashing the button makes my arm hurt.

    With Chakra especially in A2S im able to DPS full time thanks to purification. You just need to know when to use it. the fights are designed with small pockets for you to get your chakras back but mnk was never suppose to abuse it.

    What i would like a change to is Fists of Fire. i think the potency should be increased to 10%. 5% just seems really mediocre.... Make it substantial and then make FoE more viable in contrast. But that ios something that requires considerable tweaking to balance. But yeah, either way be nice.

    MNKs didn't get 'much' because they were already the shit in 2.x, same for NIN. Those jobs were highly desired for final coil. DRG was more of the meh DPS jobs because the only utility was piercing debuff.

    Elixer field is OP. Form change is irreplaceable especially for things like A3S. Purification is great. Forbidden chakra is ok but I wish you could use it at any amount of meditation stacks with a reduced potency. MNKs HW skills are pretty good all around and to anyone saying MNK doesnt have much utility, our dps is our main utility as well as traited mantra and ofc DK. We're in a great spot atm.

    People, please comment on the point the OP is trying to make... It's not about how good MNK is now or something, it's about how interesting/fun the new skills are.

    I agree with the OP. I have stopped complaining though, because I love that MNK didn't get overwhelmed with skills or overhauls to the way they play, but at the same time, Forbidden Chakra sucks, and Meditation is boring... not to mention Tornado Kick, which also doesn't do that high damage for an ability like that.

    I was much more exited after the France event before Heavensward came out, where Tornado Kick had like 500 Potency, and Forbidden Chakra like 450 or something (can't remember). Either that, or being able to stack Chakra during your main rotation without interrupting your attacks.

    It just doesn't make sense that a MNK have to find time to get 5 Chakra stacks, only to do 320 Potency, when a tank can do 500 potency much easier...

    It has nothing to do with overall DPS, because just making changes like that would obviously make MNK OP, but I'm talking about balancing the DPS in some other way.
